Let’s Talk Bookish: 2022 Reading & Blogging Reflections

It’s the final LTB of 2022. When it comes to posting LTBs in the latter half of the year, I’ve been spotty at best so I’ve made sure that I don’t miss out on this last one of the year!

Happy almost New Year’s Eve, friends!

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits, and it’s where we get to discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each other’s posts! If you want to join in the bookish discussion fun, check out the December 2022 prompts!

Now without further ado… The topic asks us about:

2022 Reading & Blogging Reflections

Prompts: How many books did you read in 2022? Did you meet your reading goals? What were some of your favourites? What were your least favourite books you read this year? How did you feel about your blogging in 2022? What are your favourite posts you wrote in 2022? What are some of your favourite posts from the community that you read this year?

Buckle up friends, this is going to be a long post!!! 😉

How many books did you read in 2022?

I start the year setting one main goal which is my Goodreads Reading Challenge. This year, I set it to 150 books and as of today, I’ve read 210/150 books! I’m happy to say that not only did I meet my initial reading goal but I also made my goal to read an even 210 books! 😊

Did you meet your reading/blogging goals?

I did set a few reading goals in my first LTB post of the year. Have I looked at these goals since I made the list? Honestly, no. 🥶 So it should be interesting to take a look at that list now and see how I did…

  • Read 150 books — Starting off strong with this! As I mentioned above, I read 210/150 books this year so I met this goal!
  • Read 50 backlist titles — I actually don’t have an exact figure but when I was still diligently tracking my progress using Kal’s Book Blogger Spreadsheet, about 40% of my reads were backlist and, at the time, I had read a total of 165 books. If my math isn’t wrong, that’s already well over 50 books!
  • Complete the 2022 Popsugar Reading Challenge — Sigh. After three years of coming close to finishing this challenge but never quite getting there, I still haven’t completed it. I think I might take a break next year but let’s see what my mood dictates!
  • Fill my Library Tracker — Okay, I didn’t actually hit this goal but I did make a decent start at the beginning of the year. I wasn’t too happy with the tracker I was using though so I’ve decided to make my own simple one with different sheets for different formats. I’m going to start fresh in 2023!
  • Grow my blog to 800 followers — It happened! 🥹 I honestly can’t believe I now have 812 WordPress followers and I’m so grateful to all of you! You wanna follow me? Verbose, long-winded, mildly dramatic, silly ol’ me? I love you all 🐼💜
  • Start my “dinipandare-reads project” — No sugarcoating that this was an epic fail! I did zero re-reading but I will start in 2023, probably with The Poppy War first as I’m planning to buddy read that maybe in January.

Well, that wasn’t as painful as I thought it was gonna be! Completing 3 of 6 goals isn’t terrible so I’ll take the win, lol. 😅

Favourites and Most Disappointing Reads

It’s always so hard to come up with these lists! I made two lists earlier this month highlighting my Top 10 from Jan-June and Top 10 from Jul-Dec and that was already tough let alone narrowing it down further! To keep it simple I’ll mention 5 favourites and 5 most disappointing reads—and I know I’ll have some unpopular opinions so take this list as you will! 😂

Favourite Reads

Most Disappointing Reads

The books on this list are here because they were titles that I was really looking forward to reading but didn’t end up enjoying as much as I’d hoped to, which is why they were most disappointing for me!

How do you feel about your blogging in 2022?

Hmm… I think I feel pretty okay about my blogging this year? I’ve improved on certain things but I also feel like I’ve slid back on certain things and I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t do better. I know I can be quite harsh on myself but I wanna do better next year! I’ve been fairly consistent with posting once a day except for in the latter half of the year. I’m still doing my weekly memes, reviews, etc. but I’m happy that I’ve written more discussion posts and become a little less afraid of sharing my thoughts. I’m also glad that I’ve cut down on posting when I need to take a break without feeling guilty and as a result, I’ve also gotten a little better at scheduling some posts ahead of time to deal with those feelings!

That said, I was a bit disappointed that I spent less time blog hopping and engaging in 2022 compared to previous years. With things going back to “normal” and me going back to an office every day, that’s cut down a lot on my energy and affected the time I have to continue engaging the way I did before. I need to find a system that works better for me and that allows me to keep interacting on the blogosphere without stressing over it!

Favourite Posts I Made

Oof, this is a toughie! 😂 I quite enjoyed writing a few of my reviews this year including for Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, Daughter of the Moon Goddess and The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. I also enjoyed writing several LTB posts this year about making friends through blogging, quitting blogging, romances and happy ever afters, reviewing books and balancing blogging and life!

Favourite Posts from the Community

This is a tough one cos I highlight several posts from the community every month but I don’t have them all bookmarked anymore. There are so many great posts out there and I know I’m only catching a fraction of what’s being written and shared and it sucks that we can’t catch all the great posts people make! So for now, I’m going to link to my monthly wrap-ups that highlight my favourite community posts from that month.

January | February | March | April | May | June
July | August | September | October | November | December

That’s it for the last LTB of 2022! If you’ve made it to the end, thank you so much for reading this long as post. How was your 2022? Was it a good reading and blogging year for you? I’d love to know what some of your books/blogs are this year!

  1. You crushed your Goodreads challenge. *applause, applause* Pop Sugar is a hard challenge, but it also has prompts I know I won’t do due to lack of interest. There are some good ones though. I think you did amazing this year.

  2. The Poppy War 😍 I am due for another reread! If you wouldn’t mind another I’d love to join the buddy read. I’ve only ever discussed it through reviews and my husband who knew nothing. 😂 You did really great with your challenges! I can’t even remember if I made any goals.

    • Joanna! I’m sorry I’m only getting back to you now about this but YES to joining the buddy read 😃 We’ve all connected on Twitter but I don’t know if you’re actually on there 🤔 Are you mostly on IG? I don’t know if one of the BR participants has IG but I can ask!

  3. Three out of six goals is not bad at all, honey. You should be VERY proud of yourself for doing that much! And you totally SMASHED your goodreads goal. I am thoroughly impressed. 210 books is A LOT. I hope you have a happy new year, friend, and that the next year brings good things for you!!!!

  4. you had so many fantastic goals during the year Dini! I love doing a library tracker each year too, I just wish I had more time to be creative with it bc its always been a simple list 😅 Ahh yes on the blog hopping, I’d love to schedule more of that into my weekly blogging but work, reading/balancing everything always makes it so difficult 😭😭 Definitely going to go back & reread all your favorite posts from the year, its always fun to look back on posts that we feel proud of, wishing you a happy 2023! 💕💕

  5. Congrats on all the goals you accomplished, Dini! And I hope you are kind to yourself about any you didn’t. I am so glad I discovered your blog this year (it’s honestly one of my favorites). I hope that 2023 is better and better!

  6. Congrats on reading 210 books, I’m in awe 😍 I love that it includes a variety of backlist books, there are some gems!
I haven’t heard too much about the specificies of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow but I have seen it a lot. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I shall see if my library has it!
Congrats on achieving three of your goals– I have no idea on my progress of goals. I don’t think I wrote them down so I have since forgotten them. That seems like an immediate fail 😅
    I hope you have a wonderful 2023 ❤️

  7. You did great this year, Dini! Congrats on all your reading/blogging accomplishments! I loved Hart and Mercy too, but I still need to read Legends and Lattes. I’ve heard so many good things about it. That Popsugar Reading Challenge is tough! lol I tried it this year for the first time and wasn’t able to complete it either.

  8. It’s easy to do all the blog stuff when you’re either not working or stuck at home for extended periods. Since I started working in November 2021, I’ve been struggling to find the time & energy to do everything with my blog I wanted to. I try to write a rough schedule of posts for each month a month or two prior. If I have the time/energy to write more posts, I can schedule some or do the research needed.

Happy New Year to you and your family! May 2023 bring you much joy and happiness.
