Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday evening in bed reading Silence is a Sense. I haven’t read many books/stories about Syrian refugees so my interest was immediately piqued by the synopsis. It definitely sounds like it’s going to be a heavier read but I’m looking forward to giving it a try!

A young woman sits in her apartment in an unnamed English city, absorbed in watching the small dramas of her assorted neighbors through their windows across the way. Traumatized into muteness after a long, devastating trip from war-torn Syria to the UK, she believes that she wants to sink deeper into isolation, moving between memories of her absent boyfriend and family and her homeland, dreams, and reality. At the same time, she begins writing for a magazine under the pseudonym “the Voiceless,” trying to explain the refugee experience without sensationalizing it—or revealing anything about herself.

Gradually, as the boundaries of her world expand—as she ventures to the neighborhood corner store, to a gathering at a nearby mosque, and to the bookstore and laundromat, and as an anti-Muslim hate crime shatters the members of a nearby mosque—she has to make a choice: Will she remain a voiceless observer, or become an active participant in her own life and in a community that, despite her best efforts, is quickly becoming her own?

#WWWWednesday: 03 March

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished five books. Three of these five reads left me with some pretty mixed feelings but it wasn’t an awful week of reading!

Aether Ones by Wendi Coffman-Porter ★★☆☆
The first book that left me with mixed feelings last week. This was a pretty interesting sci-fi read that had one of the most kick ass heroines I’ve read about in a while! Leilani is someone you don’t want to mess with, especially when she technically has the “UN of space” on her side as she does whatever it takes to get the job done! 😉 That said, the world building and time jumps often had me re-reading and getting confused. Check out my blog tour review!

The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi ★★★½
This was an incredible and heartbreaking story about the complexities of love, sexual and gender identity, and self-acceptance in a society that doesn’t accept or acknowledge your existence. It’s about loss, grief, fear and secrets. It’s a stunningly written book that I would highly recommend! Check out my review!

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

So, last week I said I was going to spend the rest of my Sunday night in bed reading Mr Right Across the Street but that didn’t happen and I ended up playing Animal Crossing until I fell asleep… 🙈 This time I’m actually reading it and I’m about 46% in. I’m enjoying it so far — it’s quite sweet and cute, plus both characters are pretty real and relatable! It’s also making me want to have a cocktail in hand whenever I read it cos the ones mentioned in the book sound really good! 😂

Mia Abbott’s move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all the disastrous romantic choices she’s made in her past. But then the hot guy who lives opposite – the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much – starts leaving notes in his window…for her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honour, she realises that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his creations. And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough!

#WWWWednesday: 24 February

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished three books. Two of the books were re-reads that I did following along with the audiobooks and I’m so glad that I did that!

Illuminae & Gemina (The Illuminae Files #1 and #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff ★★★★★
These were my two re-reads and I absolutely LOVED them. I rated them both 4-stars the first time I read them (although I’m not sure why) but after reading along with the audiobook, I’ve bumped up both ratings to 5-stars. This series is *chefs kiss*. Maybe Gemina isn’t all that different in plot compared to Illuminae but did I care? Absofreakinglutely NOT! They were such fun reads and I loved the couples and the side characters. Seriously, if you love full cast audios and want something fun to read, definitely check these out! 😍 10/10 would recommend!

The Locker Room (The Brentwood Boys #1) by Meghan Quinn ★★½
Legit sad that I didn’t love this one more especially when it started out strong for me. Knox was such a great hero and might be one of my new sports hero faves, and while Emory started off really fun and relatable, she became increasingly irritating as the story went on. And then that time-jump at the 80% mark happened and… NOPE. Nuppity nope. Just why? Super sad panda times. 🐼 Check out my review!

It’s 10:30PM on Sunday as I write this and I haven’t touched a book all day, but I plan to spend the rest of my evening before my sleeping pills kick in reading Mr Right Across the Street. This is for an upcoming blog tour and I’m really looking forward to diving into this sweet-sounding romance!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished six books and I’m happy to say that I’ve written and posted a few of these reviews already! We’re ignoring the fact that I have weeks of “I’ll be posting my (mini-)reviews soon” that I still need to tackle but something is better than nothing, right?! More reviews to come 😉😂

Bad Habits by Flynn Meaney ★★★★
This was so different from what I usually read but I absolutely loved it. It was hilarious, it had a strong message and it’s a book that I really wish younger me had access to–although adult me still really appreciated it and I think so many readers of all ages can get something great out of the read. Check out my review!

Enjoy the View (Moose Springs #3) by Sarah Morgenthaler ★★½
I was so looking forward to Easton’s story so I’m quite sad that this ended up being my least favourite of the series. Easton is still my kryptonite but our heroine really set my teeth on edge in this one! I tried to be understanding of her drive and the adventurous thrill but… Nope. Morgenthaler’s signature humour was still enjoyable though! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Check out my review!

Earlier today I actually finished Take A Hint, Dani Brown and now I’m not quite sure what I want to read? I’m not sure if I want to pick up another romance or if I want to go something else? I’m really not sure what I’m in the mood for so I think I’m going to dabble in a few titles. Here are the few that I’m thinking of:

Have you read any of these books? Any recs? What are you currently reading?
