Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday evening in bed reading Silence is a Sense. I haven’t read many books/stories about Syrian refugees so my interest was immediately piqued by the synopsis. It definitely sounds like it’s going to be a heavier read but I’m looking forward to giving it a try!

A young woman sits in her apartment in an unnamed English city, absorbed in watching the small dramas of her assorted neighbors through their windows across the way. Traumatized into muteness after a long, devastating trip from war-torn Syria to the UK, she believes that she wants to sink deeper into isolation, moving between memories of her absent boyfriend and family and her homeland, dreams, and reality. At the same time, she begins writing for a magazine under the pseudonym “the Voiceless,” trying to explain the refugee experience without sensationalizing it—or revealing anything about herself.

Gradually, as the boundaries of her world expand—as she ventures to the neighborhood corner store, to a gathering at a nearby mosque, and to the bookstore and laundromat, and as an anti-Muslim hate crime shatters the members of a nearby mosque—she has to make a choice: Will she remain a voiceless observer, or become an active participant in her own life and in a community that, despite her best efforts, is quickly becoming her own?

What are you currently reading?

Two things have taken up a big chunk of my non-work days this week: Fruits Basket and Animal Crossing.

I spent a good chunk of the latter half of this week consumed by the anime series Fruits Basket (on Netflix). I rarely watch shows or movies because I spend the majority of my time reading but I was randomly browsing for something to watch with dinner on Thursday and started it on a whim… Fast forward to 3am Saturday morning when I finished the last episode of the second season 😂 It’s been ages since I binged any show but this was so easy to get through. It was a little OTT at times but I had a lot of fun watching all the DRAMA unfold, so I’m looking forward to the next season that supposedly comes out in April? Also, I love Momiji so much! ❤️

ACNH has also eaten up a good chunk of my days this weekend especially. I’ve been having fun decorating the last empty corner of my island with the Mario items and I’m not 100% happy with it yet but I think I’m gonna be ready to share my Dream Address for visitors in the coming days! I’m excited and nervous cos I’ve never shared my island before but it’s time. 😜 I also said goodbye to two grumpies on my island, Apollo and Hamphrey and got my first panda villager (who’s technically not a panda), Pekoe and I got another smug goat, Zell! I love them already 😍

I haven’t been reading or blogging very much this week, friends. 🙈 I’m hoping that changes next week as I start my next buddy read with Leslie for the Murderbot series and then the following week I’ll be doing my first buddy read with Jess and we’ll finally be reading Jade City! I’m super excited for both because I love these two bloggers and both these books/series have been sitting on my TBR for way too long 😂

WEEKLY TRACK HIGHLIGHT

Another week, another Swift song and I’m not even sorry about it 😉 This is one of my favourite tracks off Evermore!

🎶 where’s that man who’d throw blankets over my barbed wire? // i made you my temple, my mural, my sky // now i’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life // drawing hearts in the byline 🎶

I hope you’ve all had a good weekend and that you have a great week ahead! Take care of yourselves and of each other, friends 🖤

  1. Ahhh Dini I love Fruits Basket so much! I actually have some catching up to do with the new series, but the original anime is one I watched again and again during my teens. ❤ It's still one of my favourites and I love Tohru and Kyo. Thanks for reminding me I really need to get back to it! It's not on Netflix in the UK and I am VERY jealous.

I'm so excited for our Jade City buddy read! 😀 Here's hoping we both love it, I literally haven't seen a negative review of that book anywhere and I love me a crime family.

  2. Fruits Basket sounds amazing! I need to check it out. I hope you and Jess enjoy Jade City! I need to order it to read it in 2021, I’ve heard so many great things about it and about Jade War too.
Those Mario items are so freaking cute! Love how your island is looking, Dini! Hope you had an amazing week. ❤
