I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed with Saint by Adrienne Young. This is a buddy read with Leslie and Julie and we’re all enjoying it although we’re scared that it’s gonna be a sad ending because we know what’s up from the Fable duology.

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

As a boy, Elias learned the hard way what happens when you donโ€™t heed the old tales.

Nine years after his lack of superstition got his father killed, heโ€™s grown into a young man of piety, with a deep reverence for the hallowed sea and her fickle favor. As stories of the fishermanโ€™s son who has managed to escape the most deadly of storms spreads from port to port, his devotion to the myths and creeds has given him the reputation of the luckiest bastard to sail the Narrows.

Now, heโ€™s mere days away from getting everything his father ever dreamed for him: a ship of his own, a crew, and a license that names him as one of the first Narrows-born traders. But when a young dredger from the Unnamed Sea with more than one secret crosses his path, Eliasโ€™ faith will be tested like never before. The greater the pull he feels toward her, the farther he drifts from the things heโ€™s spent the last three years working for.

He is dangerously close to repeating his mistakes and heโ€™s seen first hand how vicious the jealous sea can be. If heโ€™s going to survive her retribution, he will have to decide which he wants more, the love of the girl who could change their shifting world, or the sacred beliefs that earned him the name that heโ€™s known forโ€•Saint.

Author Adrienne Young returns to the world of The Narrows with Saint, a prequel to Fable and Namesake.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed with I Will Find You Again by Sarah Lyu. This was a fast read! I got through the bulk of it yesterday and need to finish it up tonight for my spot on the blog tour tomorrow! This wasn’t what I expected and I really enjoyed it.

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

All the Bright Places meets Ace of Spades in this twisty teen thriller about finding a way to live after losing the one person who feels like home.

Best friends for yearsโ€”weekend trips to Montauk, sleepovers on a yachtโ€”and then, first love. True love.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed with A Dawn of Onyx by Kate Golden. I picked this up after reading Julie’s review and seeing it on KU. I started it yesterday and though I haven’t been reading much, I’m at 49% now. It’s a slower-paced romantasy but it’s interesting! I’m liking the characters ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

Captured by a king of darkness. Forced to find the light within.

Arwen Valondale never expected to be the brave one, offering her life to save her brotherโ€™s. Now sheโ€™s been taken prisoner by the most dangerous kingdom on the continent, and made to use her rare magical abilities to heal the soldiers of the vicious Onyx King.

Arwen knows better than to face the ancient, wicked woods that surround the castle on her own, which means working with a fellow prisoner might be her only path to freedom. Unfortunately, heโ€™s as infuriating as he is cunningโ€”and seems to take twisted pleasure in playing on Arwenโ€™s deepest fears.

But here in Onyx Kingdom, trust is a luxury she canโ€™t afford.

To make it out of enemy territory, she’ll have to navigate back-stabbing royals, dark magic, and dangerous beasts. But untold power lies inside Arwen, dormant and waiting for a spark. If she can harness it, she just might be able to escape with her lifeโ€”and hopefully, her heart.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed with Caged in Winter by Brighton Walsh. I’ve been meaning to check out her Reluctant Hearts series ever since devouring her Havenbrook series, and since I felt like maybe a bit of easy romance could help kickstart my reading again, I finally picked it up. I’m almost done with it but it’s been just okay and I’d probably give it a 3-star at this point. Let’s see if I change my mind by the end!

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

Winter Jacobson has fought hard to escape the life she was born in to. She’s only seventy-six days away from college graduation–and the future she’s dreamed of for so long. She just has to stick to her rules: Don’t lose focus. Trust no one. Hookups only–she doesn’t want or need a man ruining her plans.

But then Cade Maxwell, aspiring chef and Prince Charming in-training, comes swooping in to her life. All brash exterior and marshmallow center, Cade strips away her walls as easily as he strips away her clothes. One of the best in his class, he’s on the fast-track to his dream job–as long as he keeps his eye on the prize.

This close to graduation, neither of them can afford a distraction. Despite their explosive chemistry, nothing serious can develop between them. Thankfully, Winter’s rules are keeping them safe.

Except Cade’s not playing by her rules anymore.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed still reading Reggie and Delilah’s Year of Falling by Elise Bryant. This is a cute coming-of-age contemporary romance between two messy but well-meaning teens. I like both of them a lot and although reading about their slightly misguided but entirely teenage decision-making makes me anxious sometimes, I’m enjoying their story!

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

Delilah always keeps her messy, gooey insides hidden behind a wall of shrugs and yeah, whatevers. She goes with the flowโ€”which is how she ends up singing in her friendsโ€™ punk band as a favor, even though sheโ€™d prefer to hide at the merch table.

Reggie is a D&D Dungeon Master and self-declared Blerd. He spends his free time leading quests and writing essays critiquing the game under a pseudonym, keeping it all under wraps from his disapproving family.

These two, who have practically nothing in common, meet for the first time on New Yearโ€™s Eve. And then again on Valentineโ€™s Day. And then again on St. Patrickโ€™s Day. Itโ€™s almost like the universe is pushing them together for a reason.

Delilah wishes she were more like Reggieโ€”open about what she likes and who she is, even if itโ€™s not cool. Except… itโ€™s all a front. Reggie is just role-playing someone confident. The kind of guy who could be with a girl like Delilah.

As their holiday meetings continue, the two begin to fall for each other. But what happens once they realize theyโ€™ve each fallen for a version of the other that doesnโ€™t really exist?

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed still reading Seven Faceless Saints by M.K. Lobb. I’m only about 7% in but I’m definitely intrigued by what’s happeningโ€”it’s giving me a combo of Nevernight and Wicked Saints vibes and I’m hoping that the execution of the story will be good!

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

In the city of Ombrazia, saints and their disciples rule with terrifying and unjust power, playing favorites while the unfavored struggle to survive.

After her fatherโ€™s murder at the hands of the Ombrazian military, Rossana Lacertosa is willing to do whatever it takes to dismantle the corrupt systemโ€”tapping into her powers as a disciple of Patience, joining the rebellion, and facing the boy who broke her heart. As the youngest captain in the history of Palazzo security, Damian Venturi is expected to be ruthless and strong, and to serve the saints with unquestioning devotion. But three years spent fighting in a never-ending war have left him with deeper scars than he wants to admitโ€ฆ and a fear of confronting the girl he left behind.

Now a murderer stalks Ombraziaโ€™s citizens. As the body count climbs, the Palazzo is all too happy to look the other wayโ€”that is, until a disciple becomes the newest victim. With every lead turning into a dead end, Damian and Roz must team up to find the killer, even if it means digging up buried emotions. As they dive into the underbelly of Ombrazia, the pair will discover something more sinisterโ€”and far less holy. With darkness closing in and time running out, will they be able to save the city from an evil so powerful that it threatens to destroy everything in its path?

Discover whatโ€™s lurking in the shadows in this dark fantasy debut with a murder-mystery twist, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Kerri Maniscalco.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed still reading Silver in the Bone by Alexandra Bracken. This is a buddy read and it was honestly a bit of a slow start. The world-building is kind of clunky and awkward but I’m at 18% now and it’s slowly starting to pick up! I’m excited to keep reading.

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

#1 New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Bracken cements her status as one of the top fantasy authors writing today in this stunning series opener inspired by Arthurian legend and fueled by love, revenge, and pure adrenaline!

Tamsin Lark didnโ€™t ask to be a Hollower. As a mortal with no magical talent, she was never meant to break into ancient crypts, or compete with sorceresses and Cunningfolk for the treasures inside. But after her thieving foster father disappeared without so much as a goodbye, it was the only way to keep herselfโ€”and her brother, Cabellโ€”alive.

Ten years later, rumors are swirling that her guardian vanished with a powerful ring from Arthurian legend. A run-in with her rival Emrys ignites Tamsinโ€™s hope that the ring could free Cabell from a curse that threatens both of them. But they arenโ€™t the only ones who covet the ring.

As word spreads, greedy Hollowers start circling, and many would kill to have it for themselves. While Emrys is the last person Tamsin would choose to partner with, she needs all the help she can get to edge out her competitors in the race for the ring. Together, they dive headfirst into a vipersโ€™ nest of dark magic, exposing a deadly secret with the power to awaken ghosts of the past and shatter her last hope of saving her brother….

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed still reading The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. This is a pretty slow-going re-read for me simply because work has taken over my life and I have zero brain cells and energy for anything else? ๐Ÿ˜ญ I’m very behind on my buddy read and I feel terrible about it!

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

A brilliantly imaginative talent makes her exciting debut with this epic historical military fantasy, inspired by the bloody history of Chinaโ€™s twentieth century and filled with treachery and magic, in the tradition of Ken Liuโ€™s Grace of Kings and N.K. Jemisinโ€™s Inheritance Trilogy.

When Rin aced the Kejuโ€”the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academiesโ€”it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldnโ€™t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rinโ€™s guardians, who believed theyโ€™d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegardโ€”the most elite military school in Nikanโ€”was even more surprising.

But surprises arenโ€™t always good.

Because being a dark-skinned peasant girl from the south is not an easy thing at Sinegard. Targeted from the outset by rival classmates for her color, poverty, and gender, Rin discovers she possesses a lethal, unearthly powerโ€”an aptitude for the nearly-mythical art of shamanism. Exploring the depths of her gift with the help of a seemingly insane teacher and psychoactive substances, Rin learns that gods long thought dead are very much aliveโ€”and that mastering control over those powers could mean more than just surviving school.

For while the Nikara Empire is at peace, the Federation of Mugen still lurks across a narrow sea. The militarily advanced Federation occupied Nikan for decades after the First Poppy War, and only barely lost the continent in the Second. And while most of the people are complacent to go about their lives, a few are aware that a Third Poppy War is just a spark away…

Rinโ€™s shamanic powers may be the only way to save her people. But as she finds out more about the god that has chosen her, the vengeful Phoenix, she fears that winning the war may cost her humanity… and that it may already be too late.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed starting my re-read of The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. I’m reading this (and hopefully the whole series) with Julie, Chris and Joanna and I’m excited but also nervous to dive back in because I know what’s coming! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But I’m looking forward to crossing a series off of my ‘need-to-finish’ list so let’s do this.

I’ve spent my Sunday reading Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. Yes, it happened, friends! I finally picked this book up and I’m buddy-reading it with Leslie and happy to say we’re loving it! Zetian is certainly something and there were moments when I was like “eh?” but I’m truly enjoying so much about this. Li Shimin deserves all the hugs ๐Ÿฅน

๐Ÿ“– SYNOPSIS

The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn’t matter that the girls often die from the mental strain.

When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it’s to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister’s death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expectedโ€”she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed. She is labeled an Iron Widow, a much-feared and much-silenced kind of female pilot who can sacrifice boys to power up Chrysalises instead.โ€‹

To tame her unnerving yet invaluable mental strength, she is paired up with Li Shimin, the strongest and most controversial male pilot in Huaxiaโ€‹. But now that Zetian has had a taste of power, she will not cower so easily. She will miss no opportunity to leverage their combined might and infamy to survive attempt after attempt on her life, until she can figure out exactly why the pilot system works in its misogynist wayโ€”and stop more girls from being sacrificed.
