Well, we basically know that I’ve been “reading” Spellbreaker for quite a while now but since I finished my previous read last night, I decided to pick this up and give it my full attention, so this Sunday I’ll be tucking into bed with it! I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time focusing on this story because I am enjoying what I’m reading but I keep getting distracted while I’m reading and it’s starting to frustrate me ๐Ÿ˜‚ I feel like I need to slap some focus into my head! Haha

The orphaned Elsie Camden learned as a girl that there were two kinds of wizards in the world: those who pay for the power to cast spells and those, like her, born with the ability to break them. But as an unlicensed magic user, her gift is a crime. Commissioned by an underground group known as the Cowls, Elsie uses her spellbreaking to push back against the aristocrats and help the common man. She always did love the tale of Robin Hood.

Elite magic user Bacchus Kelsey is one elusive spell away from his mastership when he catches Elsie breaking an enchantment. To protect her secret, Elsie strikes a bargain. Sheโ€™ll help Bacchus fix unruly spells around his estate if he doesnโ€™t turn her in. Working together, Elsieโ€™s trust inโ€”and fondness forโ€”the handsome stranger grows. So does her trepidation about the rise in the murders of wizards and the theft of the spellbooks their bodies leave behind.

For a rogue spellbreaker like Elsie, thereโ€™s so much to learn about her powers, her family, the intriguing Bacchus, and the untold dangers shadowing every step of a journey sheโ€™s destined to complete. But will she uncover the mystery before itโ€™s too late to save everything she loves?

Just like in last week’s update, I’ve also read very little this weekend! ๐Ÿ™ˆ But I’m about 90% of the way through Gargantis, which I started on a whim at 2AM last night when I couldn’t sleep. This is such a fast-paced and action-packed MG fantasy and it feels good to be back at Eerie-on-Sea with Herbert Lemon and Violet Parma! But once I finish this tonight I think I’ll go back to Spellbreaker!

There’s a storm brewing over Eerie-on-Sea, and the fisherfolk say a monster is the cause. Someone has woken the ancient Gargantis, who sleeps in the watery caves beneath this spooky seaside town where legends have a habit of coming to life. It seems the Gargantis is looking for something: a treasure stolen from her underwater lair. And it just might be in the Lost-and-Foundery at the Grand Nautilus Hotel, in the care of one Herbert Lemon, Lost-and-Founder. With the help of the daring Violet Parma, ever-reliable Herbie will do his best to figure out what the Gargantis wants and who stole her treasure in the first place. In a town full of suspicious, secretive characters, it could be anyone!ย

I’ve read very little this weekend… But I’m looking forward to ending my Sunday in bed with The Cousins. I’ve really enjoyed all of McManus’ YA thrillers/mysteries and unsurprisingly, this one has captivated my attention very quickly! I’m already intrigued by the mystery of the Story family and I’m looking forward to seeing how these characters grow!

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised . . . and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point–not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious–and dark–their family’s past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over–and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

I picked up a book for all of five minutes this Sunday but now that it’s well into the evening, I’m looking forward to spending the rest of my night in bed with The Boy, the Wolf, and the Stars! I’m reading this for the blog tour next week and I managed to read five minutes of it this morning before my day became crazy! But how good does this synopsis sound?! I’m so excited to cosy up with it tonight!

A boy and his pet fox go on a quest to find a wolf who has eaten all the stars in the sky before the Shadow Witch destroys the stars and removes good magic from the world forever.

Long ago, the land of Ulv was filled with magic. But that was before a wolf ate all the Stars in the night sky, ridding the world of magic and allowing Shadow Creatures, beasts made of shadow and evil, to flourish. Twelve-year-old Bo knows the stories but thinks the Stars and the wolf who ate them are nothing more than mythsโ€”until the day Boโ€™s guardian, Mads, is attacked by a giant wolf straight from the legends. With his dying breath, Mads tells Bo that Ulv is in danger and the only way to prevent the Shadow Creatures from taking over is to return the Stars to the sky.

And so Boโ€”accompanied by his best friend, a fox called Nix, a girl named Selene whoโ€™s magic is tied to the return of the Stars, and Tam, a bird-woman who has vowed to protect Bo at all costsโ€”sets off on a quest to find the three magical keys that will release the Stars. But Bo isnโ€™t the only one who wants the Stars, and the friends soon find themselves fleeing angry villagers, greedy merchants, and a vengeful wolf. And all the while, an evil witch lurks in the shadows and time is running out.

It’s Sunday evening and I spent the afternoon reading an ARC that I already finished, and since then I’ve been undecided on what to pick up next. I think I might be going with Kingdom of the Wicked or The Crowns of Croswald. But it’s also highly probably that I’ll end up going in a completely different direction from fantasy and read some romance because my mood is a fickle beast right now, and I can only obey its whims. ๐Ÿ˜‚

This Sunday I’m trying to read but I’m having such a hard time focusing because my moods are a little all over the place! I’ve started reading The Song of the Marked again and I am enjoying it. Even though I haven’t made much of a dent, I’ve laughed a surprising number of times already because the banter is great!

I also started Love Offline as I need to get it read for the tour next week. The blurb says it’s perfect for fans of The Flatshare, Lindsey Kelk and Sophie Kinsella, so I have high expectations? Let’s see how it plays out! Both book covers are linked to the Goodreads pages if you wanna know more about them!

It’s already Sunday evening and I’ve not done much reading today… But I will be spending the rest of my night in bed reading Legends Rise, book three in the Venators series. I read a bit of it already this morning and I’ve been enjoying it so far! It’s been a while since I read the previous book (also, my memory is weak) it took a little bit of warming up to remember what happened, but it does feel good to be back in this world and with these characters. I still feel like Grey must be protected at all costs and oh my, I’m loving Beltran even more!

The path will be forged in sweat and blood.
Rune, Grey, the shape-shifter Beltran, and willful vampire, Verida, set out to rescue their friend and mentor, Tate, from the gladiator games. But first they must navigate the perils of Eon and its warring factions. Each of this band of four carries with them a secret that threatens to tear their group apart from within. Rune now bears the mark of the promise she made to save Grey’s life-a nixie bubble lodged in her arm that could call her away to do their bidding or spell her death.
Even as their loyalty to their cause and to one another faces its greatest test, Rune’s twin brother Ryker is forging an alliance with their mortal enemy, the powerful sorceress Zio, who has plans of her own for the Venators and Eon. Hearts will be bared, secrets unveiled, and relationships made and destroyed in this stunning new installment of the Venators series

I have plans to spend the rest of my Sunday cosied up reading The Puppetmaster’s Apprentice. My focus has been whacky at best lately and I’ve struggled to fall into books over the last week (despite still reading a fair bit). I’ve had this one going for over 3 days now (I think) and it’s not because I’m not enjoying it, I’m just having trouble focusing. My mind has been wandering constantly! I’m hoping to tuck into it and finish it tonight though!

Pinocchioย meetsย Frankensteinย in this dark fairy tale retelling where a young girl is commissioned to build an assassin for a dark-hearted tyrant.

Impressed by the work of the puppetmaster and his apprentice, Taviaโ€™s ruler, The Margrave, has ordered dozens of life-size marionette soldiers to be sent to Wolfspire Hall. When the orders for more soldiers come in with increasingly urgent deadlines, the puppetmasterโ€™s health suffers and Pirouette, his daughter and protรฉgรฉ, is left to build in his stead. But there is something far more twisted brewing at Wolfspireโ€”the Margraveโ€™s son wants Pirouette to create an assassin. And he wants her to give it life.

With Tavia teetering on the brink of war and her father dying in the dungeons, Pirouette has no choice but to accept. Racing against the rise of the next blue moonโ€”the magic that will bring her creations to lifeโ€”she can’t help but wonder, is she making a masterpiece…or a monster?ย

I have plans to spend the rest of my Sunday in bed reading A Bachelor’s Pledge. This is a blog tour read for next week which I started on Friday but put on hold to finish another book. I’ve been wanting to read more regency romances so I’m glad that I picked this one up. The pace is a little slow right now but I am enjoying it and looking forward to seeing where things go for the MCs ๐Ÿ˜Š
