MidnighTS Book Tag (I)

Hello, friends! I’m so excited to do this tag today because it’s based on Taylor Swift’s newest album drop: Midnights. I first saw Yolanda @Past Midnight post this book tag and since then, I’ve seen a few bloggers do it too—even some who haven’t blogged for a long time and who had a revival moment just for this tag! I’m going to keep this introduction short and just get into the good stuff. FYI, this is just for the first 13 tracks on the regular album but there’s a part two for the 3am tracks! ✨

This awesome tag and all its images were originally created by Star is All Booked Up!

Image shows the following text on a creme background with small stars spanning across the banner: Midnights Book Tag - Lavender Haze - A book you will always love and defend - Created by Star is All Booked Up

lavender haze – a book you will always love and defend

Persuasion by Jane Austen

This book is tied for first place with Pride and Prejudice for my favourite Austen book. I’ve seen a few people complain that it’s boring, serious, unengaging and emotionless but I felt quite the opposite when I read it. I guess it also has a special place for me cos it helped me through a rough time in my life and it brought me so much comfort!

maroon – a spicy book

Falling for the Enemy by Katie Golding

I think Golding’s books are known for being steamy but this one was especially perfect for those who love the enemies-to-lovers/hate-to-love trope with a little bit of “You’ve Got Mail” vibes via text. Their chemistry was incendiary! Plus, it gets bonus points for not having a third-act breakup. 🥰

anti-hero – unreliable narrator

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

I don’t read a lot of thrillers or mysteries but have enjoyed my share of them. This book was extremely hyped and while it wasn’t a 5-star read for me, I still loved the twist that I didn’t see coming and how unreliable this narrator was!

snow on the beach – an unexpected surprise

Belladonna by Adalyn Grace

I didn’t really know what to expect when I started this—I only knew that it was gonna be a little (or a lot) spooky/creepy. It was definitely those things but it was also a wonderfully gothic romance and mystery. I adored this book so much!

you’re on your own, kid – a character that really needs a hug

Charlie from Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

Charlie. Oh, sweet, sweet Charlie boy. My heart hurt so much for him, especially in this volume of this graphic novel. He goes through so much and although he has a fantastic support system, I wanted to give him the biggest hug and never let go! 🥺 He deserves all the hugs!

midnight rain – star-crossed lovers

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

I mean, I guess this is a little literal since it’s a Romeo and Juliet retelling but I loved Roma and Juliette. Their romance was angsty and full of pining but also brutal! You really never knew if they were going to kill each other or kiss and we love those vibes!

[MY REVIEW]

question…? – grumpy x sunshine, or neurodivergent rep

Everything for You by Chloe Liese

I say this a lot about Chloe Liese’s books but this book was everything! I absolutely adored Gavin, the grumpiest of grumps and Oliver, the happiest sunshine boi. 🥰 Their story is absolute magic!

[MY REVIEW]

vigilante shit – favourite character out for revenge

Mia Covere from Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

I went into this book not knowing much about it other than it was very hyped and I was not at all disappointed. This series blew my mind (even if the final book was a bit… different from what I expected). Mia is smart, cunning and all about revenge. She really grew on me and oof, I loved her character so much!

[MY REVIEW]

bejeweled – strong character development

The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed

These teenagers weren’t my favourite and actually, our main character Ashley stands out as one of the more unlikeable protagonists I’ve read. She’s realistically flawed though and she undergoes significant development as the story progressed. The other characters also had strong development and it was great to see!

[MY REVIEW]

labyrinth – second chance romance

Captain Heartbreaker by Brighton Walsh

I don’t read a lot of second-chance romances as it’s not my favourite romance trope but I absolutely loved this book and the chemistry between these two besties turned lovers. You can bet I rooted so hard for their HEA the second time around. 💜

[MY REVIEW]

karma – favourite full circle moments or parallels

We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal

I wasn’t sure how I would feel when I started this series earlier this year but I ended up loving it so much. There are quite a few full-circle moments in this story, especially in this final book of the duology, but this series also ends so satisfyingly.

sweet nothing – favourite fluffy/cosy read

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

I’ve gushed about this book quite a lot since I read it earlier this year but it is honestly one of the cosiest, fluffiest fantasy reads I’ve had the pleasure to read. It just fills me with so much joy! 🥰

[MY REVIEW]

mastermind – perfect worldbuilding and storytelling

The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee

This whole series is absolutely incredible! It’s exquisite storytelling and worldbuilding and will remain one of my all-time favourites forever. Seriously, this series has everything and I don’t recall ever being so completely immersed and invested in the characters’ lives and this world as I did with this series. Master chef of chefs kisses to this!

And that’s it for part one of this awesome tag, folks! I won’t be tagging anyone but I’d love to see your answers for this tag if you’re keen to do it! 😍

  1. Charlie! I would love to give him a big hug! Maybe a group hug with Charlie and all his friends – love them all! These Violent Delights was the first i thought of for that prompt too. Ooof, those characters could both use a hug too. lol And I still need to read The Green Bone Saga. From what I’ve read about it, I think I would enjoy it. Great choices, Dini!

    • Omg yes, a group hug with all the Heartstopper crew would be FAB! 😍 But also, yep, totally agree that Roma and Juliette could definitely use a hug as well. A lot of pain in that series! 😂 The Green Bone Saga is truly AH-MAY-ZING and I really hope you love it whenever you read it, Julie!
