Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! It’s been a hot minute since I did one of these but I’m excited to shine a spotlight on and talk a little bit about this book, which is coincidentally going to be released tomorrow (22/02/22)! Stunning. 😍
This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.*
*Sorry if a book has been featured twice. I need to make better note of which ones I’ve done already!
This week’s featured book is Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. This is an upcoming release (as I mentioned above, it’s out tomorrow!) and it’s a “novel of high fantasy and low stakes”. It’s only got a few ratings on Goodreads so far but it seems well-loved!
High Fantasy with a double-shot of self-reinvention
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv the orc barbarian cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.
However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners and a different kind of resolve.
A hot cup of fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth.
Why do I want to read it?
I don’t know if there’s anything about this synopsis that doesn’t appeal to me! I mean, “High fantasy with a double-shot of self-reinvention”? I mean, I’m a double shot espresso girl myself! And “a hot cup of fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic forth”? A big dose of this, please! I was actually lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author last week (but we all know how my last week went) and so I’ve only got around to reading it now. Viv is a wonderful character and there’s a softness to this fantasy that I’m absolutely loving so far—I have a feeling this one is definitely gonna be a winner for me! 😍
Can we also take a moment to appreciate this cover? I absolutely love the artwork by Carson Lowmiller. I don’t read that many classic high-fantasy novels but there’s something about these classic covers that always get me and this one is no different. I love the details and the strong cosy vibes I get from it so much! 💜
Have you read Legends & Lattes or do you have it on your TBR? Does it sound like a cosy fantasy you’d like to read?

I cannot wait to pick this up!! I’ve been asking for cozy fantasy romances and this sounds so lovely. And yes, that cover is a work of art!! You see these beautiful indie covers and you have to wonder why some of these publishers are not putting the same effort! It’s baffling to me because they have the money.

Yaaas, Nick! I never knew how much I needed a bit of cosy fantasy in my life until this book and now I want more?! I finished it today and it’s just so heartwarming and comforting 🥺 And too right about the cover! I know we’re not supposed to ‘cover judge’ and all that but if more covers were like this I’d be more likely to check them out sooner 😂

This is so interesting to me.–>fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth. I usually find fantasy to have overly complicated plots (probably why I love my contemporaries so much). I am intrigued.

I finished it today and it was SO comforting and heartwarming 😍 I absolutely adored it! This one is definitely not like your typical high fantasy tales, and if you ignore the fact that there’s magic and our MC is an orc and her partner is a succubus, this could be fiction with some light romance! So… very accessible to non-fantasy readers as well 😊
