My name is Levi. Iโ€™m a journalist, Iโ€™m autistic, Iโ€™m bad at magic, and I swear I didnโ€™t kill her.

Research for the paper usually falls into a few basic patterns. Someone in the city says thereโ€™s a troll under Buck O’Neil Bridge, or theyโ€™ll call just so a friendly ear will listen to them complain about a pixie infestation.
That sort of content carries me through slow news weeks. Itโ€™s rare that I uncover a murder.
Being framed for murder, though? Thatโ€™s a first.

With the Wizardโ€™s Council hunting me for a crime I didnโ€™t commit, Iโ€™ve got no choice but to solve the murder and clear my name. If I donโ€™t unravel this case, nobody will, and Iโ€™ll go down for it so hard I might never see the light of day again

ARC Review: The Rigid Duke by Darcy Burke

Genre: Historical Romance

As a refinement tutor, Mrs. Juno Langton helps young ladies develop the skills and confidence to secure an advantageous marriage. Her cheerful disposition never wavers no matter how challenging her assignment. When a house party provides an opportunity to match her difficult charge with a duke, Juno will go to any lengths to satisfy her employer and ensure the young ladyโ€™s future. Too bad the duke is an unsmiling, rigid grouch, albeit an irritatingly handsome one.

The Duke of Warrington dislikes social gatherings and despises the Marriage Mart which makes it nigh impossible to find a wife. He plans to secure his future duchess at a house party, but sheโ€™s being managed by a thoroughly meddlesomeโ€”and provocativeโ€”Mrs. Langton, who is determined to find his better nature. Heโ€™ll do anything to avoid her sunny charm and room-brightening smiles, but sheโ€™s breaking through his shell and the only way he can think to keep her quiet is to kiss her. He must marry the young lady, not desire the companion.

But now heโ€™s rethinking his wife choices.

TL;DR: I’ve come to really enjoy Darcy Burke’s books ever since discovering her historical romances last year and The Rigid Duke was no different. It was an enjoyable grumpy/sunshine romance that’s slightly more sex than plot but was a quick and entertaining read that delivers a sweet HEA!

“I’m pregnant.”

That’s what my teammate’s sister-in-law told me after our one-night stand.

I didn’t expect to see Hollis again, let alone end up raising a child with her.

We set some ground rules–we’ll raise the baby together, but that’s it.
No relationship, no future, and definitely no kissing.

But the more time we spend together, the harder it is to keep track of where the lines were once drawn.

I’m known for my one-timer on and off the ice, but this game with Hollis just got a lot more complicated…

All it takes is one missed step for your life to change forever.

Luca Mason knows exactly who he is and what he wants: In six months, heโ€™s going to be accepted into the Australian Ballet School, leave his fancy private high school, and live his life as a star of the stageโ€”at least thatโ€™s the plan until he falls down a flight of stairs and breaks his foot in a way he can never recover from.

With his dancing dreams dead on their feet, Luca loses his performing arts scholarship and transfers to the local public school, leaving behind all his ballet friends and his whole future on stage.

The only bright side is that he strikes up unlikely friendships with the nicest (and nerdiest) girl at his new school, Amina, and the gorgeous, popular, and (reportedly) straight school captain, Jordan Tanaka-Jones.

As Lucaโ€™s bond with Jordan grows stronger, he starts to wonder: who is he without ballet? And is he setting himself up for another heartbreak?

Goodreads: Our Bloody Pearl (These Treacherous Tides #1)
Publisher: Bryn Books
Publication Date: 26 July 2018
Genre: Adult Fantasy

The ocean is uncontrollable and dangerous. But to the sirens who swim the warm island waters, itโ€™s a home more than worth protecting from the humans and their steam-propelled ships. Between their hypnotic voices and the strength of their powerful tails, sirens have little to fear.

That is, until the ruthless pirate captain, Kian, creates a device to cancel out their songs.

Perle was the first siren captured, and while all since have either been sold or killed, Kian still keeps them prisoner. Though their song is muted and their tail paralyzed, Perleโ€™s hope for escape rekindles as another pirating vessel seizes Kianโ€™s ship. This new captain seems different, with his brilliant smile and his promises that Kian will never again be Perleโ€™s master. But heโ€™s still a human, and a captor in his own way. The compassion he and his rag-tag human family show canโ€™t be sincereโ€ฆ or can it?

Soon it becomes clear that Kian will hunt Perle relentlessly, taking down any siren in her path. As the tides turn, Perle must decide whether to run from Kian forever, or ride the forming wave into battle, hoping their newfound human companions will fight with them.

This adult fantasy novel featuring an nonbinary disabled protagonist is a voyage of laughter and danger where friendships and love abound and sirens are sure to stealโ€”or eatโ€”your heart.

Content/Trigger Warnings: mild gore due to carnivorous sirens and sensations of drowning.
