I’ll be spending my Sunday night in bed with Last of the Talons by Sophie Kim. This is an overdue ARC that I had previously tried reading but couldn’t get into. I picked it up on the plane ride back to Jakarta and made decent progress! It’s interesting. I can’t figure out if it’s really YA or not cos it doesn’t necessarily read like it!
What book are you spending your Sunday in bed with?
In my last Sunday post, I mentioned how the family would all be in Bali for Dad’s 70th birthday bash this weekend. Unfortunately, although we were all in Bali, we didn’t have a big do because he and my sister got massively sick with dengue (dang mosquitoes)! I felt so sad for them both, especially cos Dad was so excited for his party and it was my sister’s last week at home before (probably) heading back to Japan this coming Tuesday. After one week of battling fevers and feeling achy and weak, they’re now slowly on the mend but are still feeling pretty poorly, which is to be expected with dengue.
It was still nice to all be at the house together and we had a very intimate lunch with some delicious food. I have to admit though that being a carer for those who are sick can be really exhausting and I feel like I now need a break, again. I highly admire those who do this full-time cos they deserve all the appreciation! 🙏🏽
I didn’t end up blogging much this past week cos I was busy helping Mum take care of my dad & sister. I was shocked by how exhausted I was at the end of every day, lol. So, unsurprisingly, it’s been another slow reading week and I spent most of my time buddy-reading an ARC that will end up being one of my biggest disappointments of 2024. 😬 I was so keen to read this and was stoked I managed to get my hands on an e-ARC but sadly, the story’s execution was done so poorly… I’ll be starting two buddy reads tomorrow though and I’m very excited for both reads! 😃

I hate mosquitos and dengue sounds awful – I hope your dad and sis feel better soon! Love that Ariana Grande song – so many albums dropping!! Went from Ariana’s album and now I’ve been listening to the Beyonce album, and then Taylor is coming too? 🥵 I’m loving it! Enjoy your books and have a good week!

Mozzies are the worst. I hate them so much 😭 I haven’t listened to Beyonce’s album yet but I’ve been seeing so many comments on it, especially about the song Jolene! LOL. I can’t wait for TS’ album—we’re so blessed this year with all these drops. 💖 I hope you have a great week ahead too, Yolanda!

I just googled dengue. Sounds terrible! So sorry your family was ill. I am also sad to hear that you are disappointed by your ARC.It’s always a bummer to be excited and get let down.

It is awful. I’m lucky that I haven’t ever gotten it before but my parents have a couple of times and this was my sister’s first time. The ARC was a bummer too so all around, not the best week but hopefully this means the coming week(s) will be better! 🤣

Oh, NOOOO!! That’s the worst and I feel so bad for your dad. It sounded like it was going to be a grand time. I’m so sorry they were so sick and I’m glad they are on the mend. What terrible timing! Also, not cool for your disappointing read!! I need to message you since we start our daunting read tomorrow!! haha.

I know! He was so upset about it! 😭 It was really not the best time but I know so many people getting it now (it’s like the “season” for it, dang mozzies)! I just sent you a message earlier. I’m still nervous about our read but I’m also excited to dive into it! 😃 I hope we both love it!

I am so sorry!! He definitely had every right to be so upset! Hopefully, you guys can make it up later?? So you are opposite as us? We are just getting out of the sick season with Spring coming about! Yes, I am too.. I am in chapter 5, I think. It’s a lot. lol

I’m so sorry that your dad and sister were sick for his big birthday. You and your mom must have been exhausted after caring for them, but at least you were all together for a short time. (look for the positive). I always feel bad when an ARC disappoints me. I will usually post to NG, but not necessarily my blog or retail sites, as it might be a winner for others. Such a tough decision.
