We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Movies/TV Shows That Would Have Made Amazing Books (Submitted by Sabrina @ Notes From a Paper Plane Nomad).
I was on the fence with today’s topic because I honestly don’t watch a whole lot of movies/TV shows, and I tend to think of the opposite scenario for which books would be amazing movies/shows! 😂 So… I think I’m going slightly rogue today and instead I will be sharing ten recent reads that I’d love to see made into a movie/show!
A movie: The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot
This would be one of those heartfelt, touching, and achingly sad but hopeful dramas that you could watch repeatedly on those nights you’re looking for a bit of cosy. It’d be cathartic… after you finish crying! 😂
A show: Open Water
I could see this being one of those BBC drama mini-series or even a Netflix series à la the recently released One Day. It’s beautiful, it’s sad, it’s real.
A movie: Kindling
This is inspired by the classic Seven Samurai film but I’d love to see a modern version with these fierce teenage warriors!
A show: Emily Wilde
I could honestly see this being a show or a movie but a show means it’ll go for longer! I could see this being a show à la The Magicians on Syfy. (Hated that book but loved that show!)
A movie: Dragon Pearl
While I didn’t enjoy the book and it was a great disappointment to me, I still think this would make a great Disney/Pixar animated movie (or even a series, tbh)!
A series: Letters of Enchantment
Okay, I’m a little on the fence about this one because the casting and acting would need to be exceptional. I’m torn between them not touching this precious duology but also, I’d love to see these characters and their stories come to life! 😍
A movie: There, There
This is quite an intense book but I think it would make for a fantastic movie. A Scorsese or something (I honestly don’t know enough director’s names to suggest others, lol).
A series: The Thursday Murder Club
I’ve only read one of the books in this series (plans to read the others soon) but please make this into a BBC series. It would be so fun, cosy and I’d have a good laugh, for sure! 😂
A movie series: Supernatural Investigations
I think this MG fantasy would make an incredible movie series. It would be so fun to meet these characters and see all the supernatural magic come to life! 😍
A series: Kate Daniels
Seriously, can someone make Kate Daniels into a series? It would be a tough gig, definitely, but it would be so good. Think of the classics like Buffy, Angel, Dark Angel, etc. etc. 😍
If you’ve read any of these books, do you think they’d make a good movie/TV show? Or would you rather they not touch *your precious* and let us book lovers enjoy these books as they are? 🤭
Letters of Enchantment would be a good series!

It would be SO good if done right! But I’d be so picky with it 🤣

I haven’t read Kindling, but that does sound like a really good source for a film.

I loved this take on it and it made me curious about the original! I’m still trying to see if I can find it somewhere 😂

Open Water is a great pick.
And, yeah, I don’t watch much tv or many films either. That was something a lot of TTT bloggers talked about today, but it makes sense.

I could see Open Water being an incredibly emotional, romantic and tough TV series. I would love for it to be adapted! 😍

Open Water and Emily Wilde could definitely have great adaptations. I’d also really love to see an Amari adaptation. It would be so fun.

I love your list! The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot sounds really good and the cover is gorgeous too! I would love Emily Wilde as a show. I also hated The Magicians as a book but loved the show!

It’s a beautiful book but if you’re an emotional reader, definitely have those tissues on hand cos it’ll make you cry! 🤣 I’m so glad I’m not the only one who loved The Magicians show but didn’t love the books, lol. I was so disappointed by the books!

These are some great picks! I haven’t read all the books you mentioned (yet) but I’d love to see Amari and Emily Wilde get some screen time, too.

Oh, if they could get the casting and the perfect *vibes* right, I would LOVE an adaptation of Letters of Enchantment!

Omg, right?! But I’d be so picky with the cast as I’m sure so many others would be too. It’d be incredible if they could do it well though!

I haven’t read any of these books, but the first thing that popped out in my head was the Greenbone saga! It’s written in such a cinematic way, I think it will translate really well on screen!

Yes, Kate Daniels would be awesome to see onscreen.

Omg YES! Even though that wasn’t one of my more recent reads, I was fighting myself to not add it to this list. The Green Bone Saga would be INCREDIBLE if done right but I would be so picky with the cast and the screenplay. It would be so hard to pick what goes in and what gets taken out! 🤣 But oh gosh, I would give anything to have it be adapted!!!

I’m pretty sure that Tommy Orange mentioned at his recent book event that he has just finished a screenplay. I assumed it was for There, There.
