Today I’m doing a tag that I saw Elli @AceReader post a few days ago and though I’m usually terrible at matching songs to books and vice versa, I couldn’t resist giving this a try. I’m also hoping to participate in the Sound of Madness reading challenge this year so I thought this could be a good warm-up to that!

The idea of this challenge is to put your 2022 playlist on shuffle, and for the first five songs, you need to pick a book you read in 2022 that fits that song. It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit. You just have to explain why you chose that book for that song.

I honestly feel like this whole song embodies Isadora and Devraj’s romance. The upbeat tempo and the loved-up lyrics match how they started, got together and are now inseparable and would be happy as long as they’re with each other (corny AF, I know, but so sweet)!

This song is about the post-honeymoon phase of a relationship and two people trying to salvage a doomed relationship by ignoring the bad things happening. Some of the lyrics reminded me of Myla and Ryot’s marriage-in-crisis in Untying the Knot.

This song made me immediately think of the grumpy sunshine dynamic and that in turn made me think of ice-cold plant daddy, Cal, and the eternal ray of sunshine, Elle. These two are one of my favourite couples for sure! 😍

These Violent Delights Duology by Chloe Gong

I know the meaning of this song isn’t necessarily romantic, but I think it was the back-and-forth nature of the lyrics that made me think of the angsty romance between star-crossed lovers Juliet and Roma. The push and pull, forward-backwards nature of their relationship in both books made me really think of this song.

Phew, that took a hot minute for me to do but I had fun coming up with matches and I don’t think I did too badly? It’s no surprise that all of these books are romances and I think the songs kinda show that I’m a bit of a hopeless romantic/melancholy baby. 😂 I won’t be tagging anyone but go for gold if you’re interested in doing this too—I’d love to maybe discover some great new tracks and see what books you’d choose for them! 😍

  9. Loving all your song choices!! I’m literally going to have Paper Rings stuck in my head forever now, such a catchy song. I’ve only read These Violent Delights but yes that’s such a good fit for 1 Step Forward, 2 Steps back! I’m so happy you did this tag!!

    • HAHA, I’m sorry but it’s always great to have a TS song stuck in my head. I never have any issues with listening to it on repeat all these years later. 😍 I’m so glad I saw you post this tag cos I really enjoyed doing it and I think I might even make it a yearly thing! 😃

  16. I have been enjoying everyone’s Spotify posts. I don’t listen to a lot of music, in fact hadn’t heard any of these songs before, but I enjoy listening to them. Great reasons for your pairings, Dini.
