#WWWWednesday: 17 August 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I’ve managed to finish three books and I’ve completed my Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2022! 🎉

Tattered Stars (Tattered & Torn #1) by Catherine Cowles ★★★½ (rounded up)
I went into this without knowing anything about it and I was pleasantly surprised by it! It’s a great balance of romance and suspense, a genre combo I don’t read much of, and I was reeled in from the prologue. Everly was such a badass survivor and Hayes was the soft-hearted hero simp and I enjoyed their slightly angsty enemies-to-lovers romance!

(ARC) The Dragon’s Promise (Six Crimson Crows #2) by Elizabeth Lim ★★★½ (rounded up)
Although it wasn’t perfect and there were some issues with pacing and the introduction of too many new elements, I thought this was a pretty satisfying conclusion to the SCC duology. I loved Shiori and her family and I adored her romance with sweet Takkan. My blog tour review will go up in a few weeks!

The Heiress Hunt (The Fifth Avenue Rebels #1) by Joanna Shupe ★★☆☆☆
This was not the historical romance I thought it would be. This was a friends-to-lovers romance but I didn’t really feel their chemistry and neither did I care about them.

I’m currently reading The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones. I’m at 45% now and I’m really enjoying it. Fane is just… He has my heart! And TREFOR. I shouldn’t even be surprised I love this maybe-magical-maybe-normal corgi because ELJ managed to make me love a not-dead goat in her last book so… 😂

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

    • Thanks, Chris! I don’t think I’ve ever achieved my goal so early in the year 😂 I’m a little bummed that The Dragon’s Promise wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be. I read Lim’s first duology and the conclusion to that one was also a bit disappointing to maybe it’s like some “second book syndrome” for the author? It was still a fun read though!

  2. Woot Woot!!! Congrats, on finishing your Goodreads challenge! It hasn’t been the best reading week. I’m so bummed that we didn’t love Dragon’s Promise more. I am glad that you are enjoying your current read and hopefully it will be a good ending!!

    • Thanks, Leslie! I think this is the first time I’ve ever finished my reading goal so early… I think I’m gonna up it by another 50 books to reach 200. Last year I read 199 of 200 (soooo sad lol) but maybe this year will be the year I achieve it! I’m also bummed we didn’t love Dragon’s Promise more… All the potential was there!

    • NGL, it was a little sad, Sam… I was hoping that at least one of the books would be a big winner (especially since it’s the sequel to one of my favourites last year) but sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. I think I might up my reading goal by another 50 books… Let’s see if I do it, lol!

    • Thanks, Carla! I think this is the first time I’ve completed it so “early” in the year. A lot of the books weren’t my favourites but I’m glad that I read them. Ooh, did you enjoy The Drowned Woods? I’ll have to look for your review once I’ve finished reading it (if you’ve posted it)!

    • It has an absolutely *stunning* cover! Definitely one of my faves—I’m a fan of these face-front editions of this duology 🙂 I’ve seen Taylor’s book around a fair bit this year so I’m defo looking forward to giving it a try!
