What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there.
I would know. I’m coming home with a brand-new ring on my finger.
My wife? Ryan Bell.
We’re polar opposites.
She’s sunshine and happiness.
I’m grumpy and scarred—literally.
We could get it annulled and no one would be the wiser.
Only problem? We posted about it online, and it’s already making headlines.
I can’t afford to get that kind of attention and tank my career, and Ryan needs my help too.
We make a plan: stay married for one year, play our roles, and divorce amicably at the end. No harm, no foul.
Besides, there’s no way the beauty is going to fall for the beast…

TL;DR: I just knew that I was going to love Ryan and Rhodes from the moment I realised their book was next and I WAS NOT WRONG. Pls, I really wasn’t expecting to be swooning so hard over the way Rhodes was a total simp for Ryan but this man had me feeling weak and it was RUDE! I absolutely adored these two together 😍 Although I felt the initial moments the morning after their vegas wedding and the following week before they move in together were a little bit awkward, their palpable chemistry soon superseded the weird vibes and it was simultaneously electrifyingly hot and heartwarming!
I know this is only the second book in the series but I don’t think it’d be premature of me to say that Rhodes is my favourite hero of the lot. I mean, I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. I just loved everything about him! He’s this giant grumpy bear of a hockey player who’s literally marshmallow-soft underneath it all and that’s absolutely my favourite type of hero! He’s so conscious of how people see him because of his scar and he’s convinced himself that no one can see beyond it and therefore, no one could ever truly love him (“The Beast”). Ugh, the way my heart hurt for him! But that moment he allows himself to show Ryan how deeply vulnerable he feels, it absolutely knocked me off my feet and had me tearing up. It was such a powerful moment and the fact it was followed up by him falling on his knees for her? Hunter, have mercy, I was not ready!! 🥵 Ryan was also great and I loved her sassy attitude and witty humour. What makes them so perfect is how well they complement each other; he needed someone to see past his scar and she needed someone who would appreciate her, not to mention the fact that they’re both hopeless romantics who simply want to find their person—the one who will accept and love them for who they are! 🥰
On top of that, we also get what I missed in the first book of this series: great team banter! Not only did Ryan and Rhodes send me laughing, but these teammates had me cackling madly. Miller in particular was such a ridiculous numpty (in the best way) and I can’t really wait for his story cos I have a feeling it’s going to be WILD! He’s like a wholesome and clueless golden retriever and I loved him for it. I find Lowell a bit of a mystery so I’m curious to learn more about him in One-Timer, which is the next book in the series. Also, I adore when these jocky athletes get all protective over elderly characters in romances and so it’s safe to say that I loved the way these guys all doted on and cared for Ryan’s nan! It was just TOO CUTE! 😍
Honestly, Ryan and Rhodes and all the elements that made up their story just make me so so happy and I loved their romance so much! I would highly recommend this if you enjoy sports romance, marriage-of-convenience, grumpy/sunshine, cheeky & witty banter and strong friend group/team vibes!

Have you read Blind Pass or is it on your TBR?

I haven’t read it, but your review definitely makes it want to pick it up. I love anything remotely similar to Beauty and the Beast, so I think this one will get added to the ol’ TBR! Great review!!!

Yes, I totally agree! I just read Sin Bin and I couldn’t put it down 😂 I loved the age-gap and I mean, Owen might be a new fave next to Rhodes, I don’t know?? 🔥
