Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday in bed with Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. I’m buddy reading this with Leslie but I’ve fallen a bit behind since we started yesterday because I picked up another book that sucked me in so quickly that I ended up bingeing all five books overnight? Oops! Acevedo’s book is in verse though so I have a feeling I’ll speed right through it!

Camino Rios lives for the summers when her father visits her in the Dominican Republic. But this time, on the day when his plane is supposed to land, Camino arrives at the airport to see crowds of crying people…

In New York City, Yahaira Rios is called to the principal’s office, where her mother is waiting to tell her that her father, her hero, has died in a plane crash.

Separated by distance—and Papi’s secrets—the two girls are forced to face a new reality in which their father is dead and their lives are forever altered.

And then, when it seems like they’ve lost everything of their father, they learn of each other.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve seen a lot of memes about how January of a new year always passes by at a snail’s pace and the rest of the year goes in a blink, and I never really understood that until now! For some reason, this January feels like it’s crawled by, but I’m also very aware that it’s the last full week of the month next week, so…? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyone else feeling like this too or is it just me? Lol.

I got struck by a bout of food poisoning this weekend that basically knocked me out since yesterday and ugh, it’s absolutely the worst. 🥴 My tum’s still feeling a wee bit sensitive today but I can at least stomach some plain toast, porridge and tea! On the upside, with all weekend plans cancelled, I got to tuck in bed binge-reading in between sleep, so it wasn’t all bad.

I’ve been speeding through a whole lot of books this week and I even had a small chat with Leslie about whether we read too quickly? 😂 We decided that we just have amazing reading brains and as long as we’re enjoying what we’re reading, it doesn’t matter how fast we go! I know this momentum probably won’t last but I’m enjoying all the bingeing for now. Also, even though it’s still January and so relatively “early days”, I’m pretty proud of myself for continuously updating my reading/book tracker file as I’m trying to be a bit more organised this year, and I haven’t stopped doing it yet. It’s the little accomplishments sometimes, right? Woo, me! 🙌🏽 ICYMI, here’s what I posted this week:

  1. That video took me back to when I saw Imagine Dragons. Good times! Food poisoning is no fun. You poor dear. Glad you find a silver lining to that. The month hasn’t been slow for me, but it’s been a struggle in other ways. At least we have good books. I liked Clap When You Land. The ending has stuck with me. I can’t say what I think without revealing too much, but it hit me right in the heart.

    • Ah, kinda jealous that you’ve seen them live! I bet they were amazing and I can imagine the energy at the concert was great! 😍 I’m definitely glad that we have good books to carry us through the days, weeks and months! And yes, CWYL was gorgeous. Had me feeling a hot mess by the time the end rolled around. 🥲 Acevedo never fails in taking a sledgehammer to my feels lol

      • My daughter loves live music, and going to shows is something we have always done together. I did pass on the When We Were Young festival, but we have some shows coming up. Acevedo is definitely so good at making me feel. I keep saying I am going to listen to one of her books because she narrates, and she amazing at spoken word poetry

  2. OMg – five book overnight! You’re amazing! Sorry to hear about the food poisoning. But glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better! And I hope you enjoy your buddy read. I’m starting one with Leslie tomorrow – The Heart Principle.

    • Haha, they were all novella length but oof, I just really needed to know what happened next. The tension was too great and it was so worth it 😂 I hope you and Leslie enjoy The Heart Principle! Aah, I can’t wait to read that one too 😍 Happy reading, Julie!
