We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday in bed with… Silver Shark by Ilona Andrews. This is the second novella in the Kinsmen series. I recently picked up my first book by IA and I really enjoyed the balance of sci-fi and romance! I’m looking forward to reading more from them in the future š
Talent is power. And revenge is sweet.
In a distant, future world Kinsmenāsmall powerful groups of genetically and technologically advanced familiesācontrol vast financial empires. They are their own country, their own rulers, and their only limits are other Kinsmen. The struggle for power is a bloody, full-contact sport: in business, on the battlefield…and sometimes in the bedroom.
Claire Shannon is a killerā¦and her weapon is her mind.
Born on a planet torn by war for over 300 years, Claire is a soldier: a psycher, with the ability to read, control, and destroy the minds of enemy psychers and to infiltrate the biological network where they battle to death.
When Claireās faction loses the war, she barely escapes extermination from both sides, as her talent brands her as too dangerous to society. By so-deeply burying her ability that she avoids detection, Claire is instead deported to Rada as a refugee, where she must find work to remain. She finds a job as personal assistant to Venturo Escana, a premiere kinsman; one of Radaās most wealthy entrepreneursāand most powerful psychers.
She thought she had left war behind, but now she must hide her skills and her growing feelings from Venturoā¦and this battle might just cost her everythingā¦

For some reason this week seemed to pass by pretty slowly? I travelled back to Jakarta from Bali this past Thursday and thankfully, the airport wasn’t horrifically packed like it was when we travelled in December. It feels good to be back in Jakarta, I missed my books, I missed my doggos and I missed sleeping in my cloud bed! I do miss the sun and slightly fresher air in Bali though but I will be going back again in about a month’s time, so I won’t miss it too much! Lol.
Coming back meant I also finally got to get my hands on my Green Bone Saga set from Illumicrate. It’s stunning but I’m a little disappointed that all of them came slightly damaged, especially after what I spent on these babies š„² I do think it’s because of how roughly customs handles things here, rather than the fault of Illumicrate but still… It kinda hurts LOL!

I’ve continued to read a lot of romances but I’m also currently trying to read a blog tour read and I’m struggling, although the early reviews I’ve been seeing are all 4-5 stars! I’m kind of tempted to DNF it but it’s also an ARC… Do you DNF ARCs? On the blogging front, I’ve been a little more with it when it comes to responding to comments and blog hopping. Still want to do better though!

forever winter – taylor swift
its been three days in a row that I’ve woken up with this song in my head. it’s so sad but hits so so deep.
I hope you’ve all had a good weekend and that you have a great week ahead! Take care of yourselves and of each other, friends š¤

How rude that one of those beautiful books were damaged. The frustration of ordering by mail. Glad you got back safely, and smaller crowds is always a plus.

Thanks, Tessa! It’s been good to sleep in my own bed again š And yes, SO disappointing that the books come damaged… Trying to push the damage to the back of my mind and all lol

Oh, it hurts so much when a special edition comes damaged! š¦ It sucks!
You can DNF arcs, usually, PR companies that handle the book tours are super understanding as long as you tell them sooner rather than later. You can offer to post a spotlight instead of the review.

So painful! I’ve been anticipating these books so much and I think this set is probs the most expensive SE I’ve ever bought so I’m pretty gutted all of them have some kinda damage, even if one of them is more minor than the other two š„² I did end up finishing the book even though it felt like torture š I’m such a masochist but I won’t be reviewing it lol

Yeah, that set is beautiful. It’s awful that all of them have some damage. š¦
Can’t believe you finished the ARC!!! š š Well, at least you don’t have to review it! š

Oh my word, those books are gorgeous! It stinks that theu came damaged, though, especially after waiting for them! I struggle to DNFs especially for blog tours, but better than a terrible review. Maybe you could spotlight the book or post an excerpt instead?

I struggle to DNF at all and I didn’t end up doing that with this book even though it was a wee bit torturous working my way through the read š Glad I can say that I did finish it though and definitely did not jive with it so I’ll defo be doing a spotlight lol

I have DNF’d a couple ARCs in the past. I think if it’s for a tour you probably just need to let them know.

I’m pretty bad with DNF’ing in general, especially when so much time has passed between DNFs (LOL) so I didn’t end up DNFing this but I defo won’t be reviewing it!

That sucks that the books came damaged, hate when that happens after spending so much on them. I almost dnf’ed a book last night, I finished but yikes, I skimmed a lot of it. But I’m trying to be better at remembering to post a book excerpt instead of review if it’s a blog tour for a book I didn’t enjoy haha. Have a good week Dini!

Yeah, I was pretty bummed out when I opened the box and saw the spines were damaged. Ugh, that feeling when it’s so close to perfect and it’s not directly obvious at a passing glance but you KNOW it’s there š I also finished the book I was reading and it was BIG yikes, I kinda hate myself for finishing it, ngl š Trying to move on to a better read now! Hope you’re having a good week so far too, Yolanda!
