Welcome, welcome to the first WWW Wednesday of 2021!
Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since the last time I did one of these posts I’ve managed to read 5 books (I think?), although none of them were the ones that I was reading in my previous post and all of those are still being “currently read”. π

Caplin made me question why I’d yet to go to Switzerland and why it wasn’t higher up on my bucket list. She masterfully brought the setting of each location so vividly to life, and not to mention how she so enthusiastically writes about food in this book made me ridiculously hungry (and eager to bake)! Sadly, I wish the characters were better developed as I didn’t feel connected to them and it made the romance fall a bit flat for me. RTC.

I’d heard so much about this series and I’m so glad I finally picked it up. It’s action-packed and Messenger introduces us to an interesting magical world full of vegetarian elves and a unique magical system. I loved Sophie and her journey and can’t wait to read more. Potentially a new favourite MG fantasy! RTC.

I immediately picked up book two in this series and my only regret was 1) that it ended and 2) I didn’t have the following books on hand. I devoured this just as quickly as the first. We get to explore a much darker side to Sophie’s story and abilities, and to this magical world that Messenger created. I have to say I’ve never read MG (or even YA) like this before! I absolutely loved it & can’t wait to read on. RTC.

A super fun and fast read, this YA contemporary involving teenage fairy godmothers is sure to have you laughing with its witty and extremely nerdy banter. You’ll meet a new and perfectly adorkable book boyfriend and a heroine whose story will pull on your heartstrings. Check out my full review!
The Fortunate Ones by Ed Tarkington β

This was an exceptionally well written and engrossing coming-of-age story that took me by surprise. I never thought I’d be so captivated by a story that focuses on the ultra rich and elite white privileged families of Nashville, but here we are. I do have mixed feelings because the ending was a little ‘meh’ but otherwise this was such a compelling read. My review is out tomorrow!

I’m still “currently reading” all of these and I… haven’t made progress with any of them because I legit haven’t picked them up since I wrote this post on 30 December. π I did start reading Among the Beasts & Briars again today and… I don’t know if it’s me not being in the “right mood” but it’s not captivating me as much as I’d hoped. I’m having trouble focusing on what I’ve read but I’ve also noticed some inconsistencies that keep jarring me out of the story and I’m starting to get annoyed π WHY. I’ve been so looking forward to reading this? WHY. I’m gonna keep on though and hope that it gets better (for me)! π€π½

I do have some blog tour reads that I need to get on and that I’m really looking forward to. Trading Secrets is an ARC I got from the author but… I’m starting to feel like it’s really not my jam. It sounded so interesting but I’m struggling to get into it. I’ve decided to put it down for now but I’ll hopefully come back to it again soon.

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Hope your 2021 has kicked off on a strong bookish note! Happy reading, friends! π

My daughter binged those Keeper of the Lost series the past couple of months. She loved them. She’s wishing she didn’t have to wait so long for book 9 now. I hope you have a great reading week!

Haha omg, I actually had no idea this had nine books (that’s not even out yet?!) but I’m still waiting on my copy of books 3 & 4 and I’m now regretting not immediately ordering 5-7 too π It’s so much fun and super bingeable! I hope you’re having a great reading week too π

Yes, so far there are 8.5 books out.

Oh, I heard about the .5 (not so great from the reviews I saw but hopefully by the time I get to book 8, 9 will already be out!) π

My daughter liked it. It’s a novella with a bunch of other information.

Ali… I’m super sad panda to say that it didn’t… I mean, it wasn’t bad, I can see why people like it, but it just wasn’t 100% for me π Will share my review soon! I do hope you enjoy it though π

I’m about 40% through right now and omg, I have to take a break. IT IS WRECKING ME. I love and hate how much it has sucker-punched my feels. As an emotional reader, I’m a seriously emotional hot mess. Send help πππ

If you’re looking for MG fantasy, I would definitely recommend it! Super fun π
Switzerland was on my radar but not really (if that makes sense) but the Little Swiss Ski Chalet made me want to get there ASAP! One day π

I can’t wait to see what you think of Cast in Firelight and The Mistletoe Trap! very different reads, but both are so good! I loved House of Earth and Blood too but found the beginning hard to get into. Totally worth it though, if you like SJM. Happy reading! π

Okay, that’s good to know that you also found the beginning a bit hard to get into. I thought maybe it was just because my head was in a bit of a fuzzy state and I wasn’t absorbing as much and as quickly as I wanted to but I love SJM’s ToG series so I’m definitely keen to keep on reading π Hope you’re having a great week!

Totally not you. I put it down a couple of times, but once I got about 150 pages in, I was hooked. Then I couldn’t put it down! I can;t wait to see what you think if you decide to continue with it. There are some parts that DESTROYED me! lol

Okay, I’m planning to give it my full attention once I finish my blog tour reads. I’m getting some love triangle vibes right now but since I don’t see it mentioned in reviews I’m guessing it kinda fades out? Haha SJM definitely has the talent for destroying feels π

I’ve been putting off Among The Beasts And Briars because I’m worried it will bore me! I’ve been wondering if I should read Glimpsed too, it’s on my radar at the moment.

I just finished Among the Beasts and Briars today and I’m genuinely sad to say that I didn’t love it. It wasn’t bad and I understand why people like it but it just wasn’t for me. I would say if you’re looking for a fantasy with rich world-building and characters then this isn’t it, but if you’re looking for a light fantasy fairytale with an easy HEA then I would give it a try π I would definitely recommend Glimpsed though! It was a super fun feel-good read π

I’m impressed you’re reading so much! I’m sorry that you’re not enjoying Among the Beasts and Briars–I was hoping to get to that one soon myself. Happy reading, Dini!

Thanks, Lisa! It feels so good to be on vacation and have as much uninterrupted reading time as I want π Unfortunately the vacay is going to end today and I’m a super sad panda… But hopefully, I’ll still be able to read loads working part-time! Also, I finished AtBaB and sadly it wasn’t a favourite, but still enjoyed it enough! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it. Hope you had a great reading week and a good one ahead!
