This week’s prompt is: Contemporary.

Well, contemporary is a pretty broad topic and because it was so broad I of course had a much harder time with coming up with a list 😂 I feel like I actually have a lot of contemporary books on my list, maybe more adult than YA, but I mean, when does a book stop being contemporary? Is there a timeline for that?

(sorry if that’s a silly question!)

After some thinking I decided to focus on adult contemporaries since I talk a lot more about YA/NA on my blog! Here are a few from my immediate TBR cart that I’m really hoping to read soon.

Confession: I’m intimidated by A Man Called Ove because it is so. incredibly. hyped! Everyone and their mum seem to love that book and yes, colour me intrigued, but it’s also making me hesitate to pick it up even more? I’m a weirdo. I don’t mind Scandinavian authors but sometimes the translations don’t work for me. Though I’m really hoping that I can hop on the band wagon and claim this as a hit, too!

I read LFE last year and loved it so I’m looking forward to picking up Ng’s debut: Everything I Never Told You. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about this and I’ve also tended to notice that those who loved LFE didn’t love EINTY and vice versa. Curious to see if it’ll be the same for me!

So… I still have yet to finish my first book by Tartt that I started during The Worst Slump Ever in February last year… Every time I pick the book back up I get flashbacks to that dark time… But I’ve heard that The Secret History is more enjoyable and faster paced than The Goldfinch so… Yay?

I was really excited to finally get my hands on Ask Again, Yes and my dad even surprised me when he randomly bought a signed first edition at an indie bookstore in Brooklyn when he was there last year. Bless him, he didn’t even know what he was buying 😂 I’ve heard some mixed reviews about it but I have a feeling I’ll end up enjoying this one 💙 I’ll be ready for the slow burn!

I wasn’t sure I wanted to read Such A Fun Age or not but when I saw it on sale during one of my quarantine-online-shopping-sprees (welp), I scooped it right up because… Why not? (welp some more, that logic)! I’ve seen some pretty decent reviews for it though, plus it was a Reese Witherspoon Sunshine Book Club pick, so I guess… I mean, I’ve enjoyed her picks before! 🤣
