We’re back with another Top 5 Saturday! I might’ve missed last week’s topic but I will come back to it at some point 🙂 Just in case you don’t know Top 5 Saturday is a weekly meme created by Mandy @ Devouring Books and it’s where we list the top five books (they can be books on your TBR, favourite books, books you loved/hated) based on the week’s topic. You can see the upcoming schedule at the end of my post 🙂 This week’s topic is: books inspired by mythology!
I have to be honest and say that while I know of many of the popular myths, specifically Greek and Norse, I don’t really know them in great detail. But Mythology is a topic that has always sparked my interest and I’m always up for getting my hands on more books inspired by myths! I have quite a few on my TBR that I’m hoping to read sometime in the… near future? *so many books, so little time*

I adore these Big Ideas Simply Explained books! I randomly found The Mythology Book when I was actually looking for The Literature Book but the shiny gold cover held me captive. Obviously, I left the bookstore with it in tow! This is a ‘coffee table’ book that I’d happily flip through over time.

I recently added Odd and the Frost Giants to my physical shelves when I went on a mini-Gaiman-book-buying spree towards the end of last year. It’s a fairly short MG read inspired by the Norse mythology that Gaiman frequently incorporates into his stories. It looks like it’ll be a fun read 😍

I’ve had the Mythos audiobook downloaded for a while now, and while I love learning more about the Greek gods, 99% of the reason I downloaded it is because it’s narrated by Stephen Fry. There’s something about his voice that’s so soothing and makes me feel like everything’s going to be alright 😂

Okay, but can we talk about the beauty that is the cover of Gods of Jade and Shadow?! As if that wasn’t enough of a selling point for me, but the blurb sounded too good to pass up. I haven’t read many books with Mexican folklore but I’m definitely keen to learn more about the Mayan gods!

I came across Gods Behaving Badly when doing a random search for this prompt and it sounds pretty interesting! Gods working day jobs living in modern day London? Sign me up!

Upcoming Schedule:
02 Feb 2020: Dystopian books08 Feb 2020: Mental Illness15 Feb 2020: Books about Mermaids22 Feb 2020: Books about spies- 29 Feb 2020: Books inspired by mythology

Do you like reading books about spies? Let me know below if you have any favourites or recommendations!

Gods Behaving Badly sounds really good. Just added it to my own TBR. Nice topic and some good choices for it.🙂

The title alone was enough to pique my interest and then after reading the blurb I was like yep, chucking this on the endless TBR! 🤣

Oooooh another opportunity for me to have an unpopular opinion 🎉🎉🎉 I hated mythos sooooo much! And I’m such a Greek mythology geek …but I couldn’t get on board with the narrative style. It felt very uninspired to me and a bit on the preachy side 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Oh no!!! LOL I’m curious to see what you mean now with the narrative style. Sorry to hear that you hated it so much 😢

I still need to get to Gods of Jade and Shadow. It’s been sitting on my shelf for way too long. I was recommended Mythos, and I definitely need to get to it.
