Aarón Medrano has been haunted by the onstage persona of his favorite musician ever since his mother passed away. He seems to know all of Aarón’s deepest fears, like that his brain doesn’t work the way it should and that’s why his brother and father seems to be pushing him away. He thinks his ticket out is a scholarship to the prestigious Acadia School of Music. That is, if he can avoid blowing his audition.

Mia Villanueva has a haunting of her own and it’s the only family heirloom her parents left her: doubt. It’s the reason she can’t overcome her stage fright or believe that her music is worth making. Even though her trumpet teacher tells her she has a gift, she’s not sure if she’ll ever figure out how to use it or if she’s even deserving of it in the first place.

When Aarón and Mia cross paths, Aarón sees a chance to get close to the girl he’s had a crush on for years and to finally feel connected to someone since losing his mother. Mia sees a chance to hold herself accountable by making them both face their fears, and hopefully make their dreams come true. But soon they’ll realize there’s something much scarier than getting up on stage—falling in love with a broken heart.

Since last week I’ve managed to read five books. March has ended on a high note and I’m hoping that means that April’s gonna be a great month for reading!

Kiss and Don’t Tell (The Vancouver Agitators #1) by Meghan Quinn ★★★★½
I don’t know what took me so long to read this one but I’m glad that I finally did because this was so good and this series is looking like it’s gonna be a favourite of mine! The banter, the chemistry, THE STEAM! 🥵 Wowow, so freaking good!

(ARC) Those Three Little Words (The Vancouver Agitators #2) by Meghan Quinn ★★★★½
This was slightly angstier than the first book but no less delicious when it came to everything I love in a romance. I wasn’t wrong when I said this series is becoming a favourite… I already can’t wait for the next one. This book is out now (and on KU btw) and my review will go up on Friday! 😉

Monthly Wrap Up: March 2022

How has another month already come and gone?! March was… something. Half the month passed by too quickly and the other half could’ve passed faster. A good chunk of the month saw me drowning in work stress + insomnia but there were some good times to counter the not-so-fun moments!

  • I got exciting book mail from Goldsboro and Illumicrate!
  • My parents had their wedding anniversary on the 21st and it was dad’s birthday on the 30th!
  • It was a pretty great foodie-licious month with ramen, biryani and decadent melt-in-your-mouth cookies!

Since last week I’ve read five books. Romances continue to dominate my reads but I managed to finish two fantasies as well, one of which has become one of my favourites (so far) this year!

(ARC) One-Timer (Carolina Comets #3) by Teagan Hunter ★★★¾
Hunter never fails to make me laugh and gave me the good vibes I wanted when I read it. It wasn’t perfect but the overall chemistry and banter were fantastic! 👏🏽 Check out my review

The Beast of Beswick by Amalie Howard ★★★★☆
I saw Beauty and the Beast retelling and immediately scooped it up cos I’m a sucker for them! This engaged me right from the beginning and I was invested in both their stories. The chemistry between these strong-willed opposites was explosive—talk about steamy! 🔥

I’m still making my way through this one fairly slowly because the ARC is a PDF copy and my eyes get very tired reading on my Kindle (as it’s teeny tiny). Too bad the duke is an unsmiling, rigid grouch, albeit an irritatingly handsome one.

The Duke of Warrington dislikes social gatherings and despises the Marriage Mart which makes it nigh impossible to find a wife. He plans to secure his future duchess at a house party, but she’s being managed by a thoroughly meddlesome—and provocative—Mrs. Langton, who is determined to find his better nature. He’ll do anything to avoid her sunny charm and room-brightening smiles, but she’s breaking through his shell and the only way he can think to keep her quiet is to kiss her. He must marry the young lady, not desire the companion.

But now he’s rethinking his wife choices.

TL;DR: I’ve come to really enjoy Darcy Burke’s books ever since discovering her historical romances last year and The Rigid Duke was no different. It was an enjoyable grumpy/sunshine romance that’s slightly more sex than plot but was a quick and entertaining read that delivers a sweet HEA!
