Book Review: Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

Goodreads: Felix Ever After
Publisher: Faber & Faber
Published: 18 May 2021
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Panda Rating:

(5 pandas)

Felix Love has never been in love – and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalisation too many – Black, queer and transgender – to ever get his own happily-ever-after.

When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages – after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned – Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi-love triangle . . .

But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself.

Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognising the love you deserve.

Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday night reading The Jasmine Throne. I’ve been looking forward to reading this for a while now because I’ve heard so many amazing things about it. I’m reading this with Jess and we’re both not far into it yet but I’m very intrigued so far and I can’t wait to read more!

The 2022 Mid-Year Check-In Tag

Friends, despite 2022 being the year I’ve broken monthly reading records, I have to admit that it’s been a pretty weird reading year. I’ve read a lot of great books—I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone for some, dove deeper into romance which brings me much joy and I’ve continued reading my fantasies. All that said, I still feel like I haven’t found the books that’ve wowed me so much that they’ll be in my Top 3 of the year. I mean, maybe I have but I don’t know. I guess this is me trying to say that I’ve been a little underwhelmed with the quality of books I’ve read this year but I know we still have half a year to go so I’m not giving up hope yet!

#TopTenTuesday: Most Anticipated Releases: June – December 2022

So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is actually a freebie and so I decided to do a topic that I don’t think I’ve done before: Most Anticipated Books Releasing In the Second Half of 2022

I currently have a whopping 236 books on my 2022 Releases list (I know that’s a lot) so it took a little time to sift through and narrow down the options to come up with a list of ten that I’m really looking forward to! These are a mix of romances and fantasies that I’m very keen to get my hands on as soon as they’re out!

Monthly Wrap-Up: June 2022

A part of me still finds it hard to believe that June is already over because it means that it’s almost been one month since I’ve come to India! Since I’ve been here, there have been some really great moments but also challenging ones. It’s been so lovely to see one of my closest friends after years of not seeing each other—she has built a successful business for herself and it’s so awesome to see her thrive and be an absolute boss babe. I’ve really pushed myself out of my comfort zone and it’s been fun and nice to have someone to talk to face-to-face to reminisce and to talk about the future!

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday in bed with The Inadequate Heir by Danielle L. Jensen. It’s the third book in The Bridge Kingdom series but it’s about a new couple and I’ve been excited to read about them ever since they were introduced in the second book. I’m buddy reading this with Leslie and Julie and I can’t wait to chat to them about it!
