I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday night in bed reading How to Fake It in Society by KJ Charles. This is one of the books that kept my attention (@47%) and even though it’s a bit slow-going, I find it sweet and entertaining. I feel like Titus is a much softer MC and Nico a bit more cynical/jaded than I’m used to seeing in her books, but I’m enjoying their dynamic a lot.
What book do you have in bed with you this Sunday?
This week has felt like a very long week? Mainly because I haven’t been working and I’m contending with guilt because of it. In a way it’s made time fly but it also feels like a drag? I don’t know how to explain it. I still have 3 working days per month and I have to go to the office twice next week, so I guess I’m kind of looking forward to it? It does feel kind of weird though, lol. I’ve been filling my time with a bit of reading and colouring, and a lot of gaming and watching true crime videos and documentaries on YouTube and Netflix.
I don’t know why I never considered watching true crime docos on Netflix until yesterday, but since then I’ve finished three: Worst Neighbor Ever, Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, and I really enjoyed all of them. The catfish one was absolutely mental… My jaw was on the floor, but no spoilers! If you’re a fan of true crime, I would definitely recommend these. I’m currently about half-way through The Keepers, which is absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating one as well. Does anyone else watch true crime docos on Netflix and if so, which ones would you recommend?
I managed to read a bit more this past week than I have the last and I did a bit more blog hopping as well. I’ll definitely continue to do more of that ahead ๐

Hmmm, is there an age a woman reaches where she starts watching true crime (or listening to true crime podcasts)? Is it a generational thing? I know a LOT of millennials who enjoy true crime.

When I was a teen I ended up watching a lot of true crime TV in the middle of the night because I’d frequently study all night or into the early morning hours and I’d turn on our TV just to have some background noise while working. Turns out all of my local TV stations ran their networks’ true crime TV series (like Dateline, among others) around 2:00 a.m….which is definitely one way to make it an extra creepy watch, lmao! I marginally enjoyed watching them but I stopped watching once I went to college largely because I didn’t have my own TV. I never went through that “true crime phase” that’s very typical of women in their 20s, probably because I got my fix earlier in life haha! Every once in a while, though, several commentary YouTubers I watch might cover a Netflix true crime doc that gets really big—like the Unknown Number one or the one involving Mackenzie Shirilla—and I don’t mind watching, so long as it’s not too detailed about the gruesome aspects (which is ironic, considering my intended career field once I ultimately finish all my degrees is forensic anthropology and I don’t much mind the gruesome aspects of that particular field).

I’m visiting my daughter and they watch a lot of true crime shows. I’ve sort of watched some of them. I hope you get things sorted and know what you want to do to fill your time, Dini.

I watch true crime on Netflix! Fred and Rose West was creepy. Have you watched Don’t F**k With Cats? That’s another one that scared me.

How to Fake It in Society sounds really good, Iโm hoping to read my first KJ Charles soon! Glad youโre enjoying this one ๐ ! Nothing wrong with just existing, you need some time to yourself to rest, girl and you deserve it โค๏ธ!! Iโve never watched a true crime doco coz I think it would make me angry in a not fun way, like the same way I feel when I read the news you know? But I know so many people love them and they do sound fascinating.
