We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is a Freebie!
Since today is a freebie I’ve latched on to an easy topic and I’m returning to the alphabet book posts. We’ve reached the D’s (check out A, B, and C) and sadly, my brain just isn’t on enough tonight to come up with a puntastic “D” title so I went for an alliterative D title instead. 🤭 To make things a little bit trickier for myself I decided to spotlight 4-star books that start with the letter D because you know, D is the fourth letter in the alphabet and this is my fourth alphabet post!

The Darkening – my review
Don’t Go Baking My Heart – my review
The Duke Gets Desperate – my review
Dark Matter – my review
A Dead Djinn in Cairo – my review

Destiny’s Embrace – my review
Dim Stars – my review
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Do Me A Favor – my review
Dyer Street Punk Witches – my review

Have you read any of these “D” books or are they on your TBR?

now I got don’t go breaking my heart stuck in my head ahah 🙈 all pretty covers, haven’t read any of these!

It’s so fun when folks challenge themselves like this! I wonder what you’ll do for the letter E?

I also wonder what I’ll do for E! 🤭

I’d like to try the Cathy Yardley, because I loved Role Playing.

I have to admit that I didn’t love Do Me A Favor as much as Role Playing but it was still enjoyable. I hope you enjoy it too if you give it a go! 😃

I’ve been meaning go try Don’t Go Baking My Heart! I love the cover

I really liked A Dead Djinn in Cairo! Always glad to see it called out. 🙂 And I want to read Dim Stars, too. Just need more time for reading…

I definitely don’t feel like I see Dead Djinn brought up a lot but maybe it’s cos I follow such wide ranging book bloggers 🤣 I absolutely loved it though and I need to read the full-length novel that follows it. Have you read it? Dim Stars was fun—I can’t seem to find my full review for it but I do remember enjoying it a lot. And indeed, just need more time for reading… As always, it’s never enough!

I did read A Master of Djinn (the full novel in that series) but I feel it didn’t get as much attention as I had expected. I liked it a lot, though.

I agree, even though I haven’t read Master of Djinn yet I don’t think I’ve seen much talk about it. But the stuff I’ve heard has been positive! Glad to hear you liked it 😃

I saw a fair amount about it right when it was released, but not much after. I did like it though!

This is fun. I have not read any of these, but I know Dark Matter received a ton of praise. I remember it being hyped at (one of the) last BEA conventions I attended.
LikeLiked by 1 person
What does BEA stand for? Not sure I’ve heard of it 🙂 But yes, it was all the hype when it came out (especially on bookstagram when I was still very active on it) and that’s how it got on my radar. It made me want to check out more of this author’s work for sure!

Book Expo America (BEA). It was the professional/blogger pre-convention prior to BookCon.

Ah, OK. Interesting! I’d like to go to one of these types of conventions at one point in my life, lol. One day!

Unfortunately, both these events are no more. I miss them. They were my favorites.

For a whole second, I thought I hadn’t read any of these and I was shocked! I have read Daughter of Smoke and Bone (loved), but this was such a different cover!! I didn’t realize what it was at first. haha. I’m glad you enjoyed all these and love this topic!

Haha, yeah, these were some of the new covers that came out for the series. I thought I liked it better than the OG but now I’m wondering if I liked the OG ones more (although they are impossible to find now that Book Depository no longer exists, RIP (lol).

UGGGHHHH Book Depository!!!! I’m still so upset about them closing up shop. ugh. It was such a great book resource!

I know, I still mourn the loss of that platform! I’m sure many other international readers are the same, lol. It was so great!

Yeah, I know! I miss sending you things. I can’t believe my bookmarks never made it. I have another set so I’m going to try again after the holidays.

I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone (though it’s definitely high time for a re-read) 🙂

I’ve been feeling the same! I actually got the physical copy with these new covers because I was hoping to re-read them immediately… Now a few years later… They’re still languishing unread 🤣 Maybe 2025 will be the year I finally re-read the series!

I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but couldn’t finish the series. I don’t know what happened to the third book, but it feels so disconnected from the other two!

These ones were super fun and I loved that they were more diverse than the usual Eurocentric ones 🙂 Bev Jenkins is probably my fave histrom author! 😍

I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I absolutely loved it. I think my favorite in that series was Night of Cake and Puppets. I actually could read that one again!

Is Night of Cake and Puppets a spin off or novella? I vaguely remember seeing the title before but I honestly read this series so long ago I can barely remember it now. It’s high time for a re-read, I think! 😃

I’ve only read Daughter of Smoke and Bone from this list! But The Darkening in on my list of books to read. Great list!

It’s always good to have a straightforward backup for those days you need something simple. 🙂 I just read Dark Matter with my book club this summer and.. oof. It wasn’t for me. xD

Ooh no, sorry to hear that! I’ve only recommended this book to one person IRL and he hated it and after that the book trust was broken! 🤭
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ve had people recommending it to me since literally 2016 when a bunch of folks at my job were passing a copy of the book around and everybody was loving it. I think I’m just not a very multiverse sci-fi person 😅 and hey every rec that doesn’t work is more information for better ones in the future lol

Fair enough! I’m kind of a sucker for the multiverses 🤭 And you’re so right—you’re culling the things that don’t work for you and that’s great. At least now you know! Hehe

I surprisingly really enjoyed Dark Matter (Thrillers aren’t my genre so I was shocked but in a good way)! Daughter of Smoke and Bone and A Dead Djinn in Cairo are both ones I want to read!
Here’s my TTT 🙂

If I can be honest, I thought I gave Dark Matter 5-stars so I was kind of surprised to see I gave it 4 🤣 I do remember enjoying it a whole lot though and it made me want to read more by the author! I hope you enjoy DoSaB and Dead Djinn. I need to read Clark’s full-length novel that follows Dead Djinn and I can’t wait to give it a go!

Ahah that’s funny and interesting how we sometimes remember books in a different way than we first experienced them, but at least 4 stars is still a good rating ahah 😀
Thank you so much and I hope you enjoy the full-length novel in that world!

Does this mean you’ve read all these books and given them a rating of 4 stars? Clever idea.

Yep, I’ve read all of them and given them four stars! 🤣 This ended up being more complex than I anticipated when I started making the list but it was fun going through the list and seeing out only the 4-star ratings!

I like to do irregular sorts of my books. Four stars is one I haven’t done. Five stars, I have!
