Monthly Wrap-Ups: June & July 2023

June and July were… Months. 😂 Work took over my life—and not in the best way—in June and what should have been a month of decompressing and destressing in July, was filled with personal losses that really broke my heart. They weren’t the greatest months and have solidified the fact that 2023 is a year of utter chaos, confusion and change even more so than the previous years, at least for me personally! I’m hoping that the rest of the year will be significantly better but at this point I’m just trying to do what’s best for me by taking it one day at a time, losing myself in games, and slowly working my way back to books, reading and blogging.

Over June and July, I read 19 books. There was a group read, two buddy reads, two blog tour reads, and the rest were picked at random. Unsurprisingly, I read a lot of romance as I wasn’t in the headspace for anything heavier. I dabbled in romantic suspense and I mean, for the most part, these books were entertaining enough but I honestly don’t know if I would recommend them? They’re great if you like those growly alpha MMCs who don’t speak much (lol) paired with tough and smart FMCs who don’t really need rescuing but get it anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As I’m writing this in August, I can’t say that any of these books totally wowed me although to be fair, my headspace and mood were not in great places those two months. But The Burning God does get an honourable mention because Kuang is an incredible storyteller and this series was ABSOLUTELY WILD! 🤯

There’s not much to update on the reading challenge front. I haven’t been reading much the past few months and most have been random titles borrowed from Kindle Unlimited. So, while they’re backlist titles, I don’t reckon they count towards my reading challenge as they’re not taken from my existing TBR stacks! 😬 I also haven’t updated my Goodreads tracker because I haven’t written reviews for any of the books I read but I’ve been loosely keeping track of reads on my spreadsheet!

I have a few posts bookmarked from the end of May/early June, but I think I will save them for my August wrap-up! 🥹

And that’s it for June & July, friends! I can’t believe we’re already down to five months until we reach the end of the year! I’m kind of ready for new energy but I hope it’s just good new energy, lol. 😂 How was your month in July? Did you find a new favourite book or author or multiple new faves? I hope you’ve all had a great month, are taking good care of yourselves and have an amazing August!

  3. I hope things get less chaotic for you, Dini. It will get better! 🙏❤️ You had some great reads here. I read The Poppy War and loved it, but I’m scared to keep going. 😂 I’m glad that you loved The Burning God. Happy reading and gaming!
