Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last week, I managed to finish four books and I enjoyed all of them!

(ARC) The Miraculous Sweetmakers: The Frost Fair by Natasha Hastings ★★★★☆
This was a well-written, fast-paced and engaging MG historical fantasy with a unique plot full of ice-cold magical night-time adventures. It was darker than the cover makes it out to be but it was a great read! [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW]
(ARC) Rust in the Root by Justina Ireland ★★★★☆
This historical fantasy was a rich and entertaining read but while I loved the concept, I do think it had too much packed into it to do the world-building the justice it deserved. I would still recommend it cos I found it very unique! [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW]
A Promise of Fire (The Kingmaker Chronicles #1) by Amanda Bouchet ★★★★☆
I picked this up on a whim and I’m so glad I did. I’d recommend this if you kinda-sorta-maybe enjoyed FBAA and KoBaB but want something more humorous, witty, and well-written with characters that are easy to root for, and who won’t irritate you through to the afterlife with their incessant questions in lieu of poor world-building. 🙂
(ARC) Impeccable (The Phoenix Club #7) by Darcy Burke ★★★★☆
I’ve been a fan of Evie from the first book in this series so I’m glad that we finally get her romance, and what a sweet and wholesome yet steamy romance it was! 😍 I can’t think of anyone more perfect for Evie than Gregory—who’s one of the most caring and considerate heroes I’ve ever read about. I was smitten!

I’m currently reading THREE books—all are buddy reads!

- A Ruin of Roses by K.F. Breene → 36% → This was a random pick by one of my IRL besties who asked me last night if I wanted to read it with her. It’s a Beauty & the Beast shifter retelling? I don’t have many thoughts yet, lol.
- Babel by R.F. Kuang → 85% → BR with a group of bloggers → SO. MUCH. WOW! 🤯
- Wolfsong by TJ Klune → 42% → BR with Leslie & Destiny → Still haven’t picked it back up again…

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

I’ve heard Funny Feelings is good. I hope you enjoy all of these.

I’ve seen it around but actually haven’t seen anyone talking about it in detail? I’m going in with no knowledge of what it’s about though cos I 100% chose it for the cover (lol) but I hope it’s good! 😃

Nice solid reading week, and I am seeing lots of good buzz for Babel. So, this is the Poppy War author. Oh! I hope you get a satisfying, mind-blowing ending

It is the Poppy War author! I still haven’t finished that series cos the first book was absolutely gut-wrenching and devastating (in the best ways, lol) and I keep being told that I’m not ready for that Babel ending so I have a feeling it’s gonna be a wild one 😂

Oh those look perfect for Halloween. And ooh Betsy Cornwell- I don’t think I’ve read anything by her since Tides, which I really liked.

I actually hadn’t heard of Cornwell because I saw this book but that title, byline and synopsis were all too tempting to pass up. 😂 Glad to know you enjoyed her other book though!

I ended up loving A Ruin of Roses and the second book was awesome, too. Hope you enjoy it! I’m anxious to get to the next book.

I just finished A Ruin of Roses and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but there are some things about it that don’t work for me though it’s not stopping me from continuing! 😂 I’m actually just about to pick up the next book now since it’s my day off and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. I hope you enjoy the series if/when you continue it! 😊

You make me want to find a way to add Babel in sooner than I planned. Happy reading!

It’s definitely not easy reading but I’m really in awe of Kuang’s mind and her writing. I’m about to pick it up right now to finish it and I’m terrified cos everyone has told me that I’m not ready for it 😂

Is the new Justina Ireland not a series? I’m surprised!
Happy reading!

It’s not a series but I feel like it should’ve been because Ireland seemed to want to do a lot with the world-building but it felt too much and too little for one book. I still enjoyed the read but definitely wished it was a series so we could get more!

I’ve had tests coming up and also spending all my spare time watching the little women kdrama (ITS ACTUALLY ONE OF THE BEST CREATIONS IN EXISTENCE AND 10000/10 RECOMMEND) and only got through a single book in the entirety of the past week 😅😅 the miraculous sweet makers and rust in the root sound so so good though (HISTORICAL FANTASY IS MY ONE TRUE LOVE) also omg babel!!!!
