#WWWWednesday: 14 September 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I did it. I finally read something and finished two books this week and it feels like such an accomplishment because I have not been reading at all. We’re taking this win. Let’s go! 🥳

Dyer Street Punk Witches (Ordshaw #7) by Phil Williams ★★★★☆
This urban contemporary fantasy was a fast-paced and action-packed story full of mystery and dark magic. It was such an interesting mix of elements and not at all what I expected but I loved it. Check out my review

As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh ★★★★★
This book was about the Syrian Revolution and doesn’t sugarcoat the reality of what it’s like to live in a war-torn country. It had me crying like a baby. It was incredibly tough to read but though it was heartbreaking it also managed to be full of hope and a testament to the strength of the Syrian people and their ability to endure over a decade of war. My review is out tomorrow!

Last week I had five books on the go but this week I’ve got one because I decided to put them aside for now as I haven’t been in the right reading headspace. I want to give these books the proper chance they deserve cos it’s not like I wasn’t enjoying them, I just can’t seem to focus lately!

I’m currently reading Juniper Hill by Devney Perry. I’ve had this on my TBR for what feels like ages now but just felt the urge to pick it up today. I have zero clue what it’s about cos I didn’t look at the blurb again but I’m about 8% in and I can already feel it’s gonna be a good one!

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

    • Thanks, Jordyn! I’m sad that I had to put Sabriel on hold for now but with my current non-reading mood I think it would’ve just made it unenjoyable for me so I want to wait for the right mood to hit me 😃 I hope the readalong is going well!

    • I just got my ARC for In A Jam yesterday (was waiting the whole day for it lol darn time difference) so I’ll dive into it after finishing Juniper Hill tonight. I am enjoying it more than I thought I would since I wasn’t a fan of the only book I read by her under her Willa Nash name.

    • It’s a gorgeous cover and a very… Traumatic read but so important for shedding light on a global issue that the world has turned a blind eye to. I would definitely recommend if you can handle the content/trigger warnings!

    • My review just went up earlier today but long story short is that it’s a hard book to read but 100% worth it. Finished it a few days ago and it’s still at the front of my mind. It’s definitely a story that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon and I would definitely recommend if you can handle the content!

  1. Those war stories are always so emotion. I always think of my Uncle Dieter running to protect my dad (as a baby) when they were bombing Germany. I am so lucky to have never lived through such things. Five stars has me heading over to GR to learn more.

    • Oof, Sam. I was a mess! It’s so heartbreaking to know that these people have to leave everything they’ve ever known behind not to find freedom but to find safety. Just to know they’ll wake up another day and not have to live in constant fear of being bombed while sitting at home or shot at walking down the street. Absolutely harrowing and it’s been going on for over a decade! 🥺

    • My review went up today (and I think I saw you retweet it already so thank you, Ali! 💙)! That book left me a mess and it’s hard, so very hard to read at times, but 100% worth it. Wonderful storytelling and so full of emotion!
