#WWWWednesday: 19 January 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve managed to finish eight books! It’s been a week of romances and graphic novels!

Dirty Hookup (Slayers Hockey #2) by Mira Lyn Kelly ★★★½
I got this freebie from the author so I thought I’d give it a try and I enjoyed it! It was a slightly angsty frenemies to lovers/second-chance romance and while some elements were a bit difficult to believe and I wish we got more interactions with their friends/family, I enjoyed George & Quinn’s banter and their chemistry was fire! RTC.

Earn Your Extra Credit by Meghan Quinn ★★★½
As usually, Quinn had me cracking up and really enjoying the dynamic between this group of friends. Brock and Stella went from friends to enemies to fake lovers to real lovers and it was one helluva ride but I enjoyed their journey! Also, this was way steamier than I anticipated (seriously, Romeo!)? 🥵 I didn’t rate this higher cos by the end Stella really… Got to me and not in a good way and I wish they communicated better but this was still very fun! RTC.

Put Me In Detention by Meghan Quinn ★★★★☆
This was a new release that I immediately started cos I wanted Cora’s story! Cora and Pike were absolute FIRE and we got everything with them—frenemies to lovers, fake marriage, forced proximity, only one bed, nursing back to health… Meghan Quinn really served! 🥵 They go through so much together, but Pike had me swooning and Cora had me rooting for her so hard! I reckon they’re my fave couple of the group! RTC.

Coming Back by Jessi Zabarsky ★★★☆☆
A beautifully illustrated and unique graphic novel about tradition, accepting change and personal growth. Although I didn’t fully connect with it, I still enjoyed this sweet story and the wonderful artwork! Check out my review

One to Hold (One to Hold #1) by Tia Louise ★★★☆☆
This was an author freebie and I picked it up on a whim. The first half of the book is essentially smut while the second half takes a rather dark turn (I would recommend checking the CW/TW). It’s very instalove which I normally hate but this was an interesting/entertaining read! RTC.

School of Love 1. Secrets of the Heart by BeKa, illustrated by Maya ★★★★☆
This was a really cute coming-of-age story about two friends who just want to know a little bit more about love. They learn through their investigations that things are not always what they seem on the surface. This really threw me back to my teenage years and I loved it! 😂 RTC.

Frozen Hearts and Death Magic (Of Fire and Fae #1) by Day Leitao
Oof, this was a trip and not in a good way at all! I was so ready to love this so I’m pretty disappointed this was not at all for me. It seems mine is an unpopular opinion though as so far this has mostly 4-5 ratings but… Yeah, this almost put me in a slump and took me forever to read! 🙈 I probably should’ve DNF’d it.

Mating the Huntress (Monsters and Mates #1) by Talia Hibbert ★★★½
I immediately picked this up after finishing the above book and of course, Talia Hibbert saved me from spinning into a weird slumpy mood! If you love gruff heroes who are total simps for their heroines, then you’ll 100% Luke Anthony! It’s always a bit tricky with the fated mate trope but this Were was all about consent and we’re defo all about that! RTC.

I’ve actually got a few reads going on at the minute: Love at the Icicle Café by Denise N. Wheatley, Go Deep by Rilzy Adams, Silver Shark by Ilona Adams and How to Walk Away by Katherine Center. I’m buddy reading Center’s book with Leslie @ Books Are The New Black and I had to stop myself from reading on because it’s so good! Reckon I could zoom through this in one sitting but I’m pacing myself and I’m at 35% now! 😂 I might DNF Icicle Café cos I’m really not vibing with it (kind of a bummer) but I think I’ll finish the other two tonight!

mood reading is fun, kids!

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

  1. How to Walk Away by Katherine Center was probably my favorite book the year it was released. It was my first read from her. I hope you like it. I would also agree that Cora and Pike are probably my favorite couple from that series, too. Happy reading!

  2. I’m already hooked and only in chapter two!! Ahh, so excited! I am glad you didn’t read it all in one sitting though, haha. I do think it will be one that we get through quickly though. When you get to Heartstopper 4, let me know. I need to read it and I’ll pick it up with you!! Have a wonderful reading week, Dini! ❤

  3. Oh, I didn’t know Hibbert writes supernatural romances, too! It’s not usually my thing, but… it’s Talia Hibbert! I feel like, if I’d like any supernatural romance, it would be hers, you know? Thanks for putting it on my radar!

    • Hehe, yeah, exactly that! I haven’t read that many PNRs and had no idea she wrote them but it’s Talia Hibbert so of course I couldn’t resist trying! And I’m glad I did, too! 😍 If you do give it a try, I hope you enjoy it!

    • I’m kinda surprised by how much I read this week as well! 😅 It’s so easy to speed through romances without even realising it! This was my first book by Kelly and yeah, I thought it was enjoyable for the most part, despite some questionable moments! Lol still, I’m curious to read more by her and I think I have the second book in her hockey series on my Kindle!

    • It’s too easy to binge romances? Like, once I start I can’t stop and don’t particularly want to stop either! 😂 The great thing about Meghan Quinn’s books is that they’re all on KU! I hope you enjoy(ed) it 😃
