#WWWWednesday: 12 January 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

We’re halfway through the month of January (can you believe?) and since last week’s check-in, I’ve managed to read seven books. I’m surprisingly reading a lot of graphic novels but I ain’t mad about it cos I enjoyed them all! 🥰 This was mostly winning, save for one that ended up being the first 1-star rating I’ve given in a while… 👀

The Wedding Setup: A Short Story by Sonali Dev ★★★★½
This short story made me upset that I hadn’t yet read anything else by Dev but I plan to rectify that right away. I loved the writing, the cultural references, the way Dev explored loss/grief, mother-daughter relationships and intercultural relationships. The romance had me swooning (Emmitt was 😍) and I had such a fantastic time reading this! Check out my review.

King of Battle and Blood (Adrian X Isolde) by Scarlett St. Clair ★★★★☆
Like your paranormal fantasy with lots of vampires, witches and other monstrous creatures, plus a heavy dose of smutty romance? Look no further! I have to say, this had a lot of similarities to JLA’s From Blood and Ash books but I enjoyed this one SO much more. Can’t wait for more! 😍 RTC.

Heartstopper Vol. 1 + Vol. 2 by Alice Oseman ★★★★★
This was, simply put, too precious. Oh my goodness, I absolutely love Nick and Charlie and their wholesomeness. They are so so sweet and I just… I am loving this graphic novel so much! I really tried to slow my roll and not plow through all four volumes right away—it took herculean effort on my part 😂. I just don’t want this series to end! RTC.

Now and Then (Now #1) by Brenda Rothert ★☆☆☆☆
I discovered this title in my collection after cataloguing all my eBooks a few days ago and I read it to fulfill a POPSUGAR prompt. Honestly, I should’ve DNF’d it. The heroine is probably one of my least favourite heroines ever? I hated how she pushed her insecurities on others and let herself be a doormat for those who treated her like dirt. Plus, the way she kept pushing the hero away was just… No, ma’am. I was fuming lol! Not. My. Jam!!! 😔

Crushing by Sophie Burrows ★★★★☆
A quiet but gorgeous graphic novel that explores solitude and loneliness. There’s no dialogue in this story but these pictures speak a thousand words (as cheesy as that sounds)! It’s so realistic and relatable. I highly recommend it! Check out my review.

Silent Blade (Kinsmen #1) by Ilona Andrews ★★★½
This was my first book by IA and I’m so excited to read more from them! The sci-fi and romance aspects were well-balanced and though the plot centered on revenge was pretty simple, it was very enjoyable!

I’m currently reading Bound by Firelight, book two of the Wickery Duology. I loved Aadra and Jatin in the first book and there’s so much making me angry for them in this sequel—oof, I can’t wait to see how everything gets resolved! It’s tense but also very exciting.

I have a few tour reads I need to get done but otherwise, I have no idea what my mood will dictate! LOL

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

    • It’s really good! Full of action, magic, great world building, a sweet banter-filled romance, and characters that are so easy to root for. I hope you enjoy them if you pick them up, Ali! 😃
