Finn spent his childhood living so far on the wrong side of the tracks, he couldn’t even see them through his trailer window. When he moves back to his small, southern hometown to open the first bar in a formerly dry county, he’s no longer the boy who left—he’s a man with something to prove. As long as he doesn’t allow himself to get sidetracked by the only girl he’s ever loved.

Willow learned a long time ago to protect her heart at all costs, so her walls are firmly in place when her ex comes strolling back into town, all cockiness and charm. When they’re thrown together on the job, she knows better than to give in to the tug of attraction that still simmers between them. She might be drawn to him, but she certainly doesn’t trust him. It’s time for her to prove she’s not the brokenhearted girl he left behind.

There’s no room for second chances in Havenbrook. And Willow’s daddy—the mayor—will do anything to keep it that way.

TL;DR: Swoon swoon swoon! This small-town romance definitely charmed me (heh) and there was just so much to love about it! Overall, if you’re a fan of second chances, swoony romances, dirty talking heroes and strong heroines with sizzling chemistry, and of course, lots of small-town charm, then you should definitely check this out!

The romance between Willow and Finn was the perfect combination of swoony, steamy and a little bit angsty. They fell in love as teenagers until Finn up and went MIA one day, leaving Willow alone to deal with the small-town rumour mill and a broken heart. Forward to the present day when Willow is working for her asshole-of-a-father mayor in Havenbrook and who happens to walk into her office with plans to open a bar in town? It’s none other than Finn!

Angst ensues and while I’m not always the biggest fan of angsty romances, this didn’t go over the top. It worked so well for these two because, of course, there are unresolved feelings and Walsh does an excellent job creating this sizzling chemistry between them and the tension was palpable! Then when they finally give in to their feelings? The steamy had me melting it was so hot! 🥵 I’m finding out that Walsh writes dirty talking heroes *very* well, and backing up his words with sweet and meaningful actions gave Finn all the points in my book! Willow was such a great heroine as well. I hated her taking the shit her father was doling out in spades but I’m also glad that she managed to stand up to him a few times, especially by the end. She’s caring, hard-working and so devoted to this small town that it was hard not to fall in love with Havenbrook too!

We don’t get to meet many other town folks, except we’re introduced to the gossipy Edna who I love, but I really liked pretty much all the side characters we meet and can’t wait for more! Drew is Finn’s twin and I loved their interactions and how steadfast and supportive he is of his brother. These two were mama’s boys and y’know what? I found it super sweet! We meet the other Haven sisters, Rory, Mac and Nat, and Willow’s BFF, Avery. I loved the friendship and support between Mac, Avery and Willow—their cheeky BFF banter was too good and reminded me of my girls! We don’t learn much about Nat as she doesn’t live in town but I was admittedly on the fence about Rory at the start. There’s obviously so much more than meets the eye with her though and I can’t wait to read her story next!

  1. I read this last week, and agree with everything you said! It was steamy, swoons, and totally satisfying. I also read the next one, and liked it a lot, too…and I have the third one, but blog obligations have moved that one to the back burner for a minute. Thanks for the rec, though—these were great!

  2. This one wasn’t on my radar, but it sounds fantastic. I love small town & second chance romances, and the chemistry between Willow and Finn sounds amazing! You’re finding so many swoon worthy contemporary romances lately, Dini. And when I checked Amazon, it was free on Kindle! Woot!
