Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! It’s been a very hot minute since I did one but I figured I might as well get back into it! This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.*
*Sorry if a book has been featured twice. I need to make better note of which ones I’ve done already!
This week’s featured book is Small Favors by Erin A. Craig. This is actually an anticipated 2021 YA historical fantasy release. It apparently has horror, supernatural, magical realism and retelling elements to it? It’s scheduled to be published 27 July 2021! 😍

Ellerie Downing lives in the quiet town of Amity Falls in the Blackspire Mountain range–five narrow peaks stretching into the sky like a grasping hand, bordered by a nearly impenetrable forest from which the early townsfolk fought off the devils in the woods. To this day, visitors are few and rare. But when a supply party goes missing, some worry that the monsters that once stalked the region have returned.
As fall turns to winter, more strange activities plague the town. They point to a tribe of devilish and mystical creatures who promise to fulfill the residents’ deepest desires, however grand and impossible, for just a small favor. But their true intentions are much more sinister, and Ellerie finds herself in a race against time before all of Amity Falls, her family, and the boy she loves go up in flames.
Why do I want to read it?
I MEAN. Can we please please take a minute or five to appreciate the beauty of this cover?! I loved the cover of Craig’s debut but THIS… This is just so enchanting and wow (I know I’m slaying with all the words)! Craig’s debut ended up being a lot scarier than I anticipated (hi, Ultimate Chicken™️ here) but I still thoroughly enjoyed Craig’s atmospheric writing and ability to fully suck me into a story that gave me the major jeebies. Looking at this cover I’d never expect the story to be as dark/creepy as the synopsis makes it out to possibly be, but I’ve prepared myself to be scared (LOL) and I’m so keen to read this!
Is Small Favors on your TBR too? Have you read Craig’s debut?

That is a very pretty cover and that just seems so sinister to me knowing this dips into horror a little. LOL! Hope you love it – even being the chicken, which I can TOTALLY relate to!!

Right!? The contrast kinda scares me tbh and I think I’ll be expecting the worst (in terms of the scary factor LOL) but I don’t think I could pass this one up. 😂

Serious cover goals there Dini! It does sound a little on the creepy side, but I’m willing to give it a try because it sounds brilliant 😊

Right!? This cover, ugh! 😍 Did you read House of Salt and Sorrows? Cos that was definitely a lot creepier than I thought it’d be but I still read and enjoyed it lol I hope you enjoy this one too!

I haven’t but (shocker) it is on my tbr 😂. I’ve realised I’m not quite as much of a scaredy-cat as I originally thought so I’ll definitely give it a go!

I can’t wait! it’s one of my most anticipated releases too. I’m so excited! I’ll definitely preorder it close to release day.
I hope I don’t end up putting it on my shelves and read it only in 2022, though! 😅
