Goodreads Monday – The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees

Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! It’s been a very hot minute since I did one but I figured I might as well get back into it! This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.*

*Sorry if a book has been featured twice! I need to make better note of which ones I’ve done already!

This week’s featured book is The Waking Forest by Alyssa Wees. This is a YA paranormal fantasy that was published in 2019 and has a 3.35 rating on Goodreads with 300+ reviews. Hmm… Not that great?

The waking forest has secrets. To Rhea, it appears like a mirage, dark and dense, at the very edge of her backyard. But when she reaches out to touch it, the forest vanishes. She’s desperate to know more—until she finds a peculiar boy who offers to reveal its secrets. If she plays a game.

To the Witch, the forest is her home, where she sits on her throne of carved bone, waiting for dreaming children to beg her to grant their wishes. One night, a mysterious visitor arrives and asks her what she wishes for, but the Witch sends him away. And then the uninvited guest returns.

The strangers are just the beginning. Something is stirring in the forest, and when Rhea’s and the Witch’s paths collide, a truth more treacherous and deadly than either could ever imagine surfaces. But how much are they willing to risk to survive?

Why do I want to read it?

Just like with last week’s book, I 100% forgot that I even had this on my TBR but I have no doubt that I immediately added it to my list after seeing that cover. I mean, look at ethereal and absolutely gorgeous it looks! I wants it in me hands now plz! 😍 But other than the gorgeous cover, the story does sound pretty interesting although perhaps a step out of my comfort zone with the paranormal stuff? That said, the ratings aren’t convincing me to pick it up and I saw some not so great reviews by trusted book bloggers on Goodreads and… Hmm… I’m thinking this might not stay on my TBR for much longer? But we’ll see!

Have you read The Waking Forest or is it on your TBR?
