Goodreads Monday – The Outsider by Stephen King

Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! It’s been a very hot minute since I did one but I figured I might as well get back into it! This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.

This week’s featured book is The Outsider by Stephen King. This is a psychological thriller that was published several years ago now (2017) and has a 4.05 star rating on Goodreads.

An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively readable stories.

An eleven-year-old boy’s violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King’s propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

Why do I want to read it?

Stephen King is usually an author that I stay away from because he writes the kind of scary that The Ultimate Chicken™️ in me cannot abide by 😂 That said, I do have a few of his books on my TBR that sound like it’s more psychological scary than ghost-y paranormal supernatural scary. The Outsider sounds like the exact kind of messed up suspense thriller that I would enjoy. I’ve seen some mixed reviews for it but I’m trying to go in with as little expectation as possible and will see where it takes me. I think I might attempt to pick it up soon because now is definitely the perfect reading season for it!

Have you read The Outsider or is it on your TBR?

    • I remember seeing your review for it, Andie! I fair few mixed reviews for it but I’m hoping that since I don’t read a lot of King I will like it better? Don’t know. Guess we’ll see whenever I get to it 😉
