Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve been you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

I’m planning to spend the rest of Sunday in bed with With the Fire On High. I picked this up on a whim last night after not being able to sleep after putting down a different read. I know, I’m finally reading it and I’m hoping that my erratic mood doesn’t make me put it down yet! But I’m really enjoying it so far and it’s literally playing out like a movie in my head because the characters voices are so distinct. Looking forward to keep reading!

From the New York Times bestselling author of the National Book Award longlist title The Poet X comes a dazzling novel in prose about a girl with talent, pride, and a drive to feed the soul that keeps her fire burning bright.

Ever since she got pregnant freshman year, Emoni Santiago’s life has been about making the tough decisions—doing what has to be done for her daughter and her abuela. The one place she can let all that go is in the kitchen, where she adds a little something magical to everything she cooks, turning her food into straight-up goodness. Even though she dreams of working as a chef after she graduates, Emoni knows that it’s not worth her time to pursue the impossible. Yet despite the rules she thinks she has to play by, once Emoni starts cooking, her only choice is to let her talent break free.

What are you currently reading?

Wow, are the weeks going insanely quickly or is it just me? I sometimes can’t remember what I do half the time because the days pass so quickly that they seem to blur into one! I can’t believe that from next week we’ll be moving into the last three months of the year. There has been so much loss and negativity this year that it leaves me feeling so uncertain about what’s to come in the future. It’s overwhelming and scary to think about sometimes! …On a more positive note though, my Aurora Burning Goldsboro book that I’ve been waiting for since May finally arrived after confirmation mix ups and an insanely long delivery period. They even sent me two additional books to make up for the mix up and one of them is a book I’ve been wanting to get so I was pretty stoked!

This weekend has been a weird mix of joyous celebration and news of heartbreaking pain. I’ve been trying to avoid Facebook since news broke on Friday because people have been sharing stories, and although they’re happy and commemorative, it just makes me sad and weepy because I think of how life can be so unpredictable and cruel and it’s heartbreaking. Friday was also mum’s birthday and a few cakes were delivered, plus we had one of our favourite Japanese meals at home. Mum wanted to dress up a bit which was cute since she never usually does, and then after dinner we took some photos at her request! My sister has this funny filters on her phone that turned us into bananas and my parents found it absolutely hilarious (so weird but funny) 😂

Reading & Blogging Recap

It was a fairly okay reading week and I managed to finish a decent number of books but I think I will DNF another book today as I’m just not feeling it after bingeing the first and second book this weekend and feeling mediocre about them. I’m quite proud of myself for being able to DNF some books this year! It’s still a WIP but in my opinion, a few without guilt is better than none 😉

On that note, here’s what I posted this week, ICYMI:

First Lines Friday: 25 September
The Sunshine Blogger Award IV
Book Spotlight: Divinity’s Twilight: Rebirth by Christopher Russell
#WWWWednesday: 23 September
Tour the World in 30 Books: Wicked As You Wish
#TopTenTuesday: The Current Possibility Pile
Book Blitz: Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron

Review: The Year Shakespeare Ruined My Life by Dani Jansen
#5OnMyTBR: Classics
Goodreads Monday: The Little Shop of Happy Ever After by Jenny Colgan

I’m kind of obsessed with Jessie Reyez’s voice. I know a lot of people find her voice annoying or stressful but I love her voice so much. Her range and control are amazing! I love the emotion in her songs, especially this one. It’s been a long time favourite but this week it has been on endless repeat!

    • FOREVER! It was my first time ordering from Goldsboro and I was so stoked to even be able to get a copy but then… I was so worried when at first I didn’t hear from them and then when they *finally* sent it and it took almost 3 months to reach me I was so sure I’d never see it in my hands 😂 I hope you enjoy The Bone Season! It looks really good!

  1. Sounds like a bit of a mixed week, but I feel like that’s just what life has been throwing at us all lately–gotta take the good when it comes and it certainly seems like you’re doing that! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead, Dini. ❤

  2. I see The Bone Season in that picture! I’ve heard a lot about it recently and definitely want to pick it up! I have the first two in the series at home, I believe.
