#WWWWednesday: 16 September

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I’ve somehow managed to read seven books since last week and I honestly have no idea how. Just kidding, I do. I literally spent all my time outside of work reading (and admittedly, I also spent a little time I should’ve spent working also reading–I’m so undisciplined 🙃)! It’s been a mood.

The Year Shakespeare Ruined My Life by Dani Jansen ★★½
I’m sad to say I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I’d hoped to. It had its cute moments but ultimately, the MC irritated me too much and the side characters and overall storyline weren’t fleshed out well enough. Review to come!

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara ★★★★☆
McNamara takes you on an incredible ride in this book. It’s obviously dark, gritty and compelling but at times I also felt overwhelmed with all the information she presents–it’s really a lot. It’s sad she didn’t live to see him caught, but her work definitely kept the GSK’s name in the spotlight. Review to come!

Rules for Dating Your Ex (The Baileys #9) by Piper Rayne ★★★☆☆
I read the fourth book last year and didn’t love it, but this second-chance romance sounded good and I’m glad I read it. The MCs were likeable characters with great chemistry but I was most intrigued by the Bailey siblings and Lake Starlight. I’m a sucker for romances with awesome sibling relationships set in small towns! Review to come!

Love at the Little Wedding Shop by the Sea by Jane Linfoot ★★★½
Although the plot was predictable and the characters weren’t “anything new”, I really enjoyed this sweet romance. Our heroine went through an empowering transformation + our hero was definitely of the swoon-worthy variety, but the friendships were my fave. ❤️ Read my review!

Lessons from a One Night Stand (The Baileys #1) by Piper Rayne ★★★½
So after reading about the last sibling I wanted to learn more about The Baileys and decided to pick up the series. So far, this one has been my favourite! I loved Austin and Holly. Their chemistry was fire (4/5 on the steamy scale) but their romance was so sweet/cute. Can’t wait for more Baileys + Alaska! Review to come!

Hollow Road (Maer Cycle #1) by Dan Fitzgerald ★★★☆☆
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this fantasy debut. It’s set in a world where werewolves, vampires, dragons, and other mythological creatures exist alongside humans. The werewolf like creatures (or Maer) are more human than not and have their own culture/language/society, and I loved learning about them. I wished it was better paced and the characters more fleshed out, but I would love to read more about this world. Review to come!

May Day (Seekers #1) by Josie Jaffrey ★★★½
It took me a while to get into this but I ended up becoming really invested in the characters/story. This was basically a murder mystery but our MCs are vampires living in secret amongst the humans and it was awesome! There’s a love triangle though and I really didn’t like that… But I can’t wait for book two. Can has, please? Review to come!

I have so many books going right now that I’m driving myself mental because my mood is still all over the place! I’m 42% through Advice from a Jilted Bride, but once that’s done I’ll focus on Divinity’s Twilight (although I admit I’m 90% confused and struggling to get into it) and The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling (which is already breaking my heart a little). I’m on Part II of Skyward and still haven’t picked up The Extraordinaries again after putting it down last week, but might pick one of these up again tonight!

Blog tour reads. Blog tour reads. Blog tour reads.
I have quite a few coming up, especially in October and I can’t believe it’s already mid-September?!

How is your reading week going and what are you currently reading? Hope the rest of your week goes well!

  2. I totally get the many books dilemma! I’ve got so many going and then kind of hit a slump because my mood is just tired and stressed lately. I’m hoping to get my groove back soon. I hope you had a great week! ❤

    • This is definitely a mood. Messy moods is a huge mood right now and it’s totally affecting my reading. I’m taking so long to read one of my current books (which isn’t even on this WWW list LOL) and it’s reminding me of how I felt at the start of the pandemic when my reading took a hit! Yeesh… 🤦🏻‍♀️ Hope you have a great week ahead too, Leslie!

      • Yeah, I know. I wonder if the season change has anything to do with it? I just know that a lot has been going on and with the cold weather, I’m just so blah! I hope that we both get out of these terrible moods soon!! 🙂
