We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve been you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!
This Sunday I’ve spent my day in bed with I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. I was so sucked into the book that I almost forgot to do my weekly wrap up! But I finished the book ten minutes ago and my brain is still trying to wrap my head around my thoughts on this one. McNamara presents a lot of information and it did get overwhelming at times, but wow, what an incredible journey she takes us through. I had very little knowledge of who the Golden State Killer (GSK) was before this book, but damn, I might end up going down a Google black hole trying to find more information about the cases and arrest after this! Definitely recommended for lovers of true crime.
For more than ten years, a mysterious and violent predator committed fifty sexual assaults in Northern California before moving south, where he perpetrated ten sadistic murders. Then he disappeared, eluding capture by multiple police forces and some of the best detectives in the area.
Three decades later, Michelle McNamara, a true crime journalist who created the popular website TrueCrimeDiary.com, was determined to find the violent psychopath she called “the Golden State Killer.” Michelle pored over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was.
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark —the masterpiece McNamara was writing at the time of her sudden death—offers an atmospheric snapshot of a moment in American history and a chilling account of a criminal mastermind and the wreckage he left behind. It is also a portrait of a woman’s obsession and her unflagging pursuit of the truth. Utterly original and compelling, it has been hailed as a modern true crime classic—one which fulfilled Michelle’s dream: helping unmask the Golden State Killer.
What are you currently reading?
This past week was an off week. Everyone at home was feeling extra snappy. Tensions were high, fuses were short, and it was a huge drainer all around. I was also plagued by a few consecutive days of migraines, which really wasn’t fun, so I was beyond happy when the weekend finally came around. I felt a lot less stressed out without having to think about work and I could finally lounge in my chair and do nothing but read all day–which I definitely took advantage of!
I ended up finishing three books this weekend (including I’ll Be Gone in the Dark!) and I even managed to get 7 hours of sleep last night. I’m honestly shook because I’ve gotten an average of 4-5 hours every night for 2+ years now, so this is a HUGE achievement (and I didn’t even do anything)! 😂 Let’s see if it’ll happen again tonight?!
I also decided to do some baking this weekend and made S’mores Cookies following Preppy Kitchen‘s recipe on YouTube. I love watching John’s videos and the way he explains how to make things is so easy to follow and after today’s successful baking, I can’t wait to try more of his recipes 🙂
Reading & Blogging Recap
It was a pretty decent week of reading and an average blogging week as well. I’ve been really thinking a lot about what I’m posting on my blog and I feel it’s just so boring? Everyone is so creative and I feel like such a dud… The imposter syndrome has been really really real this week, friends and it’s getting me hella down. But I will keep on blogging and hope that this feeling goes away. I’ve loved being part of this community so I guess you’ll just be stuck with whatever I share (for now) 😅
