Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.
This week’s featured book is Romanov by Nadine Brandes. This is a standalone Young Adult Historical Fiction/Fantasy re-telling about the famous Romanov family. This was released in May 2019 and currently has a 3.80 rating on Goodreads!

The history books say I died.
They don’t know the half of it.
Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them, and he’s hunted Romanov before.
Nastya’s only chances of saving herself and her family are to either release the spell and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya has only dabbled in magic, but it doesn’t frighten her half as much as her growing attraction to Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her.
That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.
Why do I want to read it?
I was both terrified and obsessed with Disney’s Anastasia after the first time I watched it, and when I learned more about the Romanov family in middle school, I went through this intense period of quite heavily reading up about them and coming up with my own crazy theories 🙄 Also, this movie is so underrated and it’s a shame! I’ve always loved historical fiction and have yet to read a YA re-telling of Anastasia’s story so of course I couldn’t want to get my hands on this the minute I heard of it. Romanov isn’t very hyped and I’ve seen some mixed reviews but I’m still looking forward to reading it. I’m now off to listen to this song on repeat (*goosebumps*):
You’re welcome.
Have you read Romanov or is it on your TBR?

I haven’t read this one, but I have to admit I’m ALWAYS curious when I see it. I will be watching for a review if you read it.

Right?! I can’t believe Anastasia isn’t more loved tbh. This song is probably one of my all time fave Disney tracks ❤ Can listen to it for hours!

Read it… found it weird because it was half quite true to life and half made up. Just made me feel a bit voyeuristic almost at times

Hahaha yeah, I remember you saying that it was disappointing so let’s see how I go with it 😂

I LOVED this movie as a kid. In fact, I watched it so many times I wonder if our VHS would still play (and I do still own it. :D). Hope you enjoy this one! I read it a few weeks ago (finally!) and while it wasn’t what I anticipated, I did think it was good, and I liked it better than Nadine’s Fawkes novel. 🙂

I still love this movie so much! Haha I try to watch it at least once or twice a year 😂 Ooh, interesting, okay. I guess I should perhaps lower my expectations and try to go into it without any… I was looking forward to reading the Fawkes novel but I did hear it was a bit disappointing so I knocked it down my TBR!
