First Lines Friday – 07 February

Yayaya, HAPPY FRIYAY, book lovers and friends 😍We’re back with another First Lines Friday! This is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? Here are THE RULES:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

First lines:

“Benny Imura couldn’t hold a job, so he took to killing.”

Do you recognize the book these first lines come from?

*drumroll please!*

The book is: Rot & Ruin (Rot & Ruin #1) by Jonathan Maberry

In the zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic America where Benny Imura lives, every teenager must find a job by the time they turn fifteen or get their rations cut in half. Benny doesn’t want to apprentice as a zombie hunter with his boring older brother Tom, but he has no choice. He expects a tedious job whacking zoms for cash, but what he gets is a vocation that will teach him what it means to be human.

Have you read Skyward or is it on your TBR?

    • I haven’t read this book yet but my interest was piqued when I came across the Webtoon! I’ve been enjoying it so far but there are only four episodes out right now LOL I’m not a big horror girl (zombies freak me the freak out) so I don’t know what I’m doing checking out books like this 😂
