Welcome back to another Friday Favourites, dear friends! Last year this weekly meme was hosted by the wonderful Kibby @ Something of the Book! However, this year Kibby has passed the torch on to Lorraine @ Geeky Galaxy. This week’s topic is: non-human characters.
Can you believe that for a couple of minutes I actually sat staring at this prompt thinking that I have no idea what to write about? Pfft. These drowsy meds are really getting to my head because WHO AM I KIDDING? Of course I have favourite non-human characters and in fact I have plenty of them! But for the sake of brevity, I’ll be sticking to a top five for this post? I’m not sure it’s all that fair to say ‘top five’ but these are also in no particular order!
Mr. Kindly
This list would be an incomplete fail of a list without Mr. Kindly in it. How can I not love this not-cat and his sharp, witty and sarcastic comments? Let’s not forget his dry humour that had me in giggling fits all throughout the Nevernight Chronicles. Plus, who actually wouldn’t love to have a not-cat shadow companion that eats all your fears? I mean, sign me up, please!
AIDAN
My feelings toward AIDAN wavered throughout the whole Illuminae Files series because I loved him but I also seriously despised him for turning me into a deeply emotional hot mess while reading these books. AIDAN is complicated and I really don’t know how to describe how I feel about him. He’s a solid favourite though.
Silas
I love characters that break the mould they were made to fit in. Silas, a daemon from Sorcery of Thorns, was one such character and I loved him! I want to dub him a cinnamon roll but he’s also more complex than that! He’s a daemon who isn’t supposed to form attachments or care for anyone, let alone his ‘master’, but… There you have it. The feels! He also takes the shape of a cat. What’s not to love?!
The Goat
This goat was… the G.O.A.T! 😃Please don’t shun me for my incredibly lame humour, I promise I’m not always this awful! But seriously. I didn’t think that I could love a goat, much less a dead goat, as much as I did but The Bone Houses proved me wrong! This goat was a bad-ass sidekick who had your back in both life and death. Read the book for the goat–you won’t regret it!
The Thunderhead
Another AI makes it onto this list, this time from Neal Shusterman’s sci-fi series, Scythe. I loved the purity of the Thunderhead and I loved reading about its thoughts and perspective throughout the series. Its yearning to be understood was palpable. I really grew attached to this AI!

Marvin the paranoid android from hitchhikers by Douglas Adams. Hands down my fav non-human character :))) he’s honestly hysterical.

AIDAN was a lot of fun! But I feel like I like M-bot better *oops* 😀

I still haven’t read Skyward but I keep seeing M-bot being mentioned. I’m very curious! Haha and yes, Silas 💛 He’s a wonderful character!
