It’s 2020 and I’m back with my first Down the TBR Hole post of the year! As of right now, my Goodreads TBR is a whopping 1,034 books and I thought I’d make it clear that just because it’s on my Goodreads TBR, that doesn’t actually mean it’s on my physical or Kindle shelves (I wish I could afford to own that many books)! With that out of the way, I’m hoping to start the year off strong and dismiss a few more books on my list. Let’s see how I do today!
Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there. Here’s how it works:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go
Verdict: Keep
All Is Not Forgotten
I don’t remember adding this one but I can’t get rid of it after reading that synopsis!
Why Not Me
Never watched anything with Kaling in it but I’ve seen a few of her interviews and she sounds cool.
Modern Romance
This is a pretty popular book and a lot of my GR friends have rated it highly. It sounds really good too!
Survival in Auschwitz
I love historical fiction especially from this period. This sounds gut wrenching but like an important read.
The Subtle Knife
I don’t know why I didn’t continue on reading this series after finishing Northern Lights. I will!
The Boy on the Bridge
I couldn’t wait for this to be released after reading and loving The Girl With All the Gifts. I’m still keen to check it out!
Fellside
I actually bought this one when I couldn’t find Boy on the Bridge but haven’t read it yet. It honestly sounds like the creepy AF kind of horror that I’m not good with (i.e. ghosties) but I do like to torment myself it seems 😅

Verdict: BYE-BYE-BYE!
A Streetcar Named Desire and Other Plays
I’m just not interested anymore? Maybe one day… But for now, bye-bye!
Gateway to Fourline
Sounds kinda interesting but also not really feeling it either?
Whisper of Souls
Same as above…

Okay, well, that wasn’t as strong of a start as I hoped it would be. I genuinely want to read all of these books though, so I’m hoping they’ll be taken off the TBR list at some point in the not-too-distant future. As I only managed to remove 3/10 books this week, my GR TBR is now down to: 1,031 books. Let’s hope that next week’ll be better!

Wow your TBR pile is crazy!!!

I’ve read Why Not Me and absolutely loved it. Mindy brings all her quirkiness to this book.

I don’t know why I haven’t watched anything with her in it but I’ve seen some interviews and think she’s awesome! I’m keen to check out her books 🙂 Have you read her other one?

Thanks! I don’t know why I didn’t continue on with the series after finishing Northern Lights. Might’ve been coz I was traveling. BUT I’m looking forward to reading it. Want to finish the series before starting the latest series adaptation 🤣

Have you seen the HBO adaptation? It looks so good but I actually haven’t heard anyone comment on it or anything lol

I have seen the first two episodes, but I haven’t gotten around to the rest yet 🙃 I have enjoyed it so far! It seems to be much better than the movie (though I realise they had less time to play with). Overall it is a good adaptation, very true to the book (from what I have seen) and I only had minor criticisms – but that was just there doesn’t appear to be loads of daemons around like there should be. I am hoping the rest of it is just as good and the acting is phenomenal so far, definitely a great cast list! 💜😊

Oh, that’s great to hear! I’m pretty excited about the casting but maybe that’s because I’m a bit of a Lin-Manuel fan girl 🤣 Ooh interesting that they didn’t include more daemons seeing as that’s such a big part of the story! Okay, now I’m getting even more excited to check it out 😍

Ahhh!! Yes! I love Lin-Manuel too!! I haven’t gotten to his part yet 😭 but he was partly why I wanted to give the show a chance! I agree, the lack of extra daemons was an odd decision (Though I can imagine it is an expensive addition). 😍😍 I hope you enjoy it, I will be trying to catch up with it asap!!
