This week’s book is The Shamer’s Daughter (The Shamer Chronicles #1) by Lene Kaaberbøl. It’s a Scandinavian Middle Grade/Young Adult Fantasy that I added to my Goodreads TBR in September 2019. On Goodreads it has 3.91 stars with 7.9k+ ratings and 416 reviews.

Dina has inherited her mother’s gift: she is a Shamer, able to see a person’s most guilty secrets just by gazing in their eyes. But sometimes her gift feels more like a curse. Nobody seems to want a friend who can see their deepest shame.

But when Dina’s mother is called to Dunark Castle to uncover the truth about a terrible crime, Dina must come to terms with her power, and quickly – or let her mother fall prey to the vicious dragons of Dunark.

Why do I want to read it?

I first heard about this book when Sammie wrote about it on her blog and it sounded like it pleasantly surprised her. The premise itself is really interesting though and the synopsis was enough to catch my attention. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that has a magical power such as staring in someone’s eyes to elicit the truth. Or have I? I don’t think so. But the thought alone gives me shivers because that kind of power can be so dangerous! Plus, there are dragons? And it sounds like a murder-mystery to go along with it. I’m so glad that they produced the English Kindle Edition last year because otherwise I might have not read this book lol
