#WWWWednesday: 09 October

It’s time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I managed to finish four books since last Wednesday! I finally finished The Bookish Life of Nina Hill yesterday and even though I didn’t fall head over heels for the cast of very quirky characters, I still thought this was an adorable read! Nina was such a great bookish character and the whole story in general was very quirky and charming! Fairlady, Vol. 1 was a fantasy graphic novel that I enjoyed for the world building but I was disappointed that the stories were so disconnected. My Life As Marlee was an ARC I got from Book Sirens and which I’m so proud of finishing before the deadline (this is sad really lol)! While the book started off well for me, I didn’t end up enjoying the rest of the story as much as I thought I would. Maybe I’m just too old and cynical for these types of YA romances? The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was by far my favorite out of all of these and I’m so glad I picked up another Zapata book after being somewhat let down by the first of hers that I read. I’m a fan of the slow burn romance and this was one heckuva slow burn but never have I been so damn satisfied by it! All the reviews for these books are coming as soon as I finish getting my thoughts down and organizing them coherently 😅

What are you currently reading?

I’ve been reading House of Salt and Sorrows since last week and it’s taking me so long only because my last week was hella busy and I didn’t have as much time to read it at night, but it’s mostly because I’m too scared to read it alone at night in my flat. I’ve been trying to read it at work during my lunch breaks but people keep chatting to me 🙃and I’m trying to be a little less anti-social at work LOL that said, I’m almost done and I really don’t want to wait until tomorrow to continue reading it but will I be able to conquer the chicken in me? Not sure. It’s creepier than I thought it’d be!!! I’m also reading Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata, which I started late last night as my melatonin was kicking in and will continue to read tonight, I think. I’ve been really bingeing on romances lately, it seems to be the mood I’ve settled in for now!

What will you read next?

I’m still trying to give priority to several eARCs that are well overdue! Even though I’m *obviously* not doing as well as I’d hoped in tackling them, there’s still time to improve! I’m hoping to read TH1RT3EN next because I’ve seen a ton of people posting about it and I think it’d be great to stick to my goal of reading more creepy books this month. I’ve heard great things! Shadow Frost is also a bit of a priority since it was just published 01 October! 🤦🏻‍♀️

What are you currently reading? How’s your week going?
Leave me a comment and let’s chat 🙂

    • The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was SO good! I’m so glad that I read it. I was so on board with everything about their relationship and that slow burn EXPLOSION was… explosive. Haha so well worth it. I hope you enjoy it if/when you read it! I started a bit of Beau & Bett, definitely different to what I expected from what I’ve read so far, but hope I will enjoy it!

  1. Oh, I’ve been dying to get my hands on House of Salt and Sorrows! Can’t wait to know what you think about it. I’m sorry that your week has been keeping you from reading it. I have The Wall of Winnipeg and Me on my TBR forever… 🤦 Good luck with your eARCs!

  2. It’s a shame about Fairlady – that seemed interesting! I unfortunately didn’t quite enjoy Bookish Life of Nina Hill but I’m glad you mostly enjoyed it 🙂 You know what I’m like for Mariana Zapata haha – she’s the slow-burn queen in my mind! I enjoyed Dear Aaron. I think my fav book by her though is Wait For It. That one has me clutching my heart in joy every time I read it! I hope you enjoy Dear Aaron! ❤ Jen

    • Yeah, I was not expecting the stories to be so disjointed like that. After the introduction story I was like… Wait, what just happened?! Lol I was so confused. The artwork and world building was great though!

I finished Dear Aaron and I enjoyed it even though it took a while for me to get on board with their chemistry etc. because of the format. It isn’t a favorite but I’m really looking forward to trying more Zapata! You said Kulti was another favorite, right? Or was that someone else? Haha I’ll definitely check out Wait For It! I love the heart-clutching joyful moments 😃 Thanks, Jen! 💜

      • Yeah Dear Aaron and Rhythm Chord and Malykin are the two books by Zapata I’m not a total fan of. The ones I’ve read the most though are Wait For It, Kulti and Under Locke. I have a feeling that you’d like From Lukov with Love the most though. You enjoy Whitney G’s writing and it’s sports romance without being TOO sports romancey… if that even makes sense 😛 It’s the perfect enemies to lovers wrapped up in an epically sweet bundle. I’d recommend starting with that one next 🙂 Jen

        • I actually went on to get Wait For It right away after reading your comment and I’m about 50% through now (I don’t sleep) haha I’m really enjoying it though and I’m 1000% in love with LOUIE! He is so freaking adorable I just want to scoop him up in my arms and keep him pure forever 💜 I didn’t realize that there was a connection between Winnipeg, Wait for It and Kulti but I’m really enjoying the stories mixing. I’ll definitely check out Lukov — maybe after this? I’ve been on SUCH a romance kick 😂

          • HAHA romance kicks are the BEST. I’ve recently stopped reading them *cries* but I can’t wait until I get back in to them. Hands down the first one I’ll read will be The Best Thing by Zapata. Louie is the cutest isn’t he??!! The start of the book though 😛 Yeah she adds in little connections which is nice. I hope you enjoy Lukov! 😀 Jen

  3. I didn’t fall head-over-heels for Nina, either, but it was definitely a fun (and funny) read! Can’t wait to see what you think of House of Salt and Sorrows! Kind of glad to hear it’s so creepy. I might just pick that up this month, since it seems like a good month to just not sleep. xD

Shadow Frost was a DNF for me. I hope you have better luck with it! (I’m also totally behind on ARCs, so … you’re not alone. We can sink in this rowboat together. :P)

    • Yeah, Nina was such a hyped book and while I did enjoy it, I wasn’t as gaga about it as 90% of bookstagram seemed to be. I’m glad I read it though. She was definitely a relatable character 😊I just finished House of Salt and Sorrows today and all I say is: PICK IT UP SAMMIE! DO IT! Holy wow, it was such a good read! While I enjoyed all of it, the last 100/150 pages just MADE IT for me. Damn! Haha

Uh oh… I’ve been seeing a lot of people saying Shadow Frost was a DNF for them on here (like Joanna!) and that has me a bit worried… Let’s see how it goes. Also, SINKING TOGETHER FTW hahaha it’s always comforting to know that 🤣

      • Yeah, I was a bit surprised how many people just seemed to love her. I keep saying, though, I tend not to like overly hyped things as much, but then I always fall into that trap anyway. xD But it was definitely a nice breath of levity in the midst of normally dark books I read lol.

Ahhhhhhh but I caaaaan’t. It’s been checked out already. =/ Dang it. I’ll have to put a hold on it tomorrow. It seems like everyone’s been singing its praises.

I’ll be interested to see what you think of Shadow Frost. xD It seems like people either love it or DNF it, and that’s such an interesting dichotomy lol.

    • I FINISHED IT TODAY!!! IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE!! I was actually shouting out loud while I read this during my lunch break at the office. The last 100/150 pages of the book were INSANE! Wow. I can’t believe I let my inner chicken keep me from this ending. DAMN. Hahaha
