Fantasy with Friends: Fast Food Brando Sando?

Happy Monday, book pandas! ๐Ÿผ I’ve been eyeing the Fantasy with Friends discussion meme for a while nowโ€”it looked like so much fun and I’ve enjoyed reading many blogger posts since Briana and Krysta started up the meme earlier this year. I’ve always wanted to join but wasn’t sure if I’d really have much to say, but today I’ve finally decided to participate after seeing the topic was about Brando Sando. I don’t know if I’ll have much of substance to say (even though I’ll probably ramble on, lol), but the topic also didn’t feel so intimidating to my brain! ๐Ÿคญ

But first, what is Fantasy with Friends?

Fantasy with Friends: A Discussion Meme Hosted by Pages Unbound

Fantasy with Friends poses questions each Monday about fantasy, either as a genre as a whole or individual works. The schedule for the year is posted on the Pages Unbound page, so feel free to get a head start!

How can you participate?

  • Check the schedule on Pages Unbound for upcoming prompts, and write a post on your own blog answering the question!
  • Come back to Pages Unbound on the scheduled day and leave the link to your post in the comments of our post. You can also tag us on Twitter or Bluesky (@pagesunbound). We just need to know about the post in order to link back to you!

#FirstLinesFriday: 15 October 2021

Happy Friday book lovers! We’re back with another First Lines Friday, a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? Here are the rules:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but donโ€™t give anything else about the book away just yet โ€“ you need to hook the reader first
  • Finallyโ€ฆ reveal the book!

First lines:

“There were great advantages to being unimportant.
True, by many people’s standards, Siri wasn’t “unimportant.” She was, after all, the daughter of a king.
Fortunately, her father had four living children, and Siriโ€”at seventeen years of ageโ€”was the youngest.”

Do you recognise the book these first lines come from?

“Only fools climbed to the surface. It was stupid to put yourself in danger like that, my mother always said. Not only were there near-constant debris showers from the rubble belt, but you never knew when the Krell would attack.”

Top 5 Saturday: Books Over 5 Years Old

I skipped last week’s prompt because I wasn’t feeling it but I’m back this week for another Top 5 Saturday, a weekly meme created by Mandy @ Devouring Books. This week’s topic is: books over five years old! Unless it’s a new release, I don’t usually pay attention to publication dates but thank goodness for handy dandy Goodreads because now I can look at what books were released before 2015 that are high on my TBR. I’m going to try to pick one book for each year so let’s see what we have:

2014

I’ve been wanting to read this one for a while now. It sounds so interesting and I love the cover!
