Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

Since last week I finished reading 1 book and 1 collection of 7 short stories. Question to you fellow readers: Would you count those seven short stories as one book or as seven books? They have their own pages on Goodreads and can be bought individually (Amazon Originals).
Paladin’s Faith (The Saint of Steel #4) by T. Kingfisher ★★★★½
Leslie and I finished our Saint of Steel series read and I’m so proud of us for it! 😂 I really enjoyed Paladin’s Faith, I want to say it’s my favourite but honestly, I’ve been saying that since book two. All of them are so good and I love them for various reasons. I think what I enjoyed most about this one is that we got a bit more lore regarding the gods, and that ending was such a wild tease! When are we getting the last three books cos I need to know what it all means asap.
Magic & Mystery Collection by Various Authors ★★★★☆
This was my first time completing an Amazon Originals collection and overall, I really enjoyed it! I loved the combination of magic and mystery, although some leaned more towards historical and magical realism, so it was lighter on the fantasy. They wound up being my faves though! My top 3 picks are: The Cairndale Orphan (5★), Battle of the Round House (4.5★), and A Labyrinth of Honeybees (4★). I was entertained by The Lion’s Tusk (4★) and Miss Gentle and the Case of the Very Flat Monk (3.5★), I was slightly bored by The Wizard Who Kept Himself Suspicious (3★), and I didn’t have a super fun time with The Wednesday Witches Book Club (2.5★). I think it’s time to accept that Durst’s cosy (or more like her characters) aren’t for me.
I’ve got a couple of reads on at the moment, including a group read with Leslie, Charlotte, and Veros as we’re continuing the Lady Trent series with In the Labyrinth of Drakes (31%). The other two reads I’ve been picking up on and off. I’m surprised I’m not making quick progress through Swordheart even though I love Kingfisher’s cosy writing and humour. I’ve had Never After on my “currently reading” for several months now but I haven’t picked it up for ages until yesterday when I got really sucked in listening to the audiobook while gaming, so I might continue doing that. I have a feeling this book is really gonna break my heart, lol. 🙃
Some buddy reads are coming up that I’m really excited about but let’s see where my mood takes me!

I don’t know though, Sam, because I feel like I’m very much in the minority with Durst’s books! Most people seem to love them (and I really wish I did too).

I was so shocked when I saw your “Just Finished”, I really thought you had read 8 books in a week! I then read they were short stories, but still really cool.
You finish one Kingfisher book and you start another!

Haha, I can’t remember the last time I read 8 full-length novels in a week. It was probably last year and I swear it was probably a fluke (I think I was sick and bed-ridden)! 🤣 Kingfisher seems to be an author that’s working well for me this year. I love her writing a lot!

I can’t believe you aren’t devouring Swordheart. Maybe after bingeing the Saint of Steel books, you need a breather. Even the best author can get a bit stale after a while.

I don’t know if it’s really Kingfisher overexposure, although that’s a possibility. I think it’s more that gaming is taking up most of my mood-space this past week and it’s continuing to do so still 🤭 I’m enjoying Swordheart when I pick it up though—Halla and Sarkis have such great banter, haha.

Definitely these are different books! The ones I’ve looked at seem novella length, so they count as individuals for sure.
Enjoy The Unbroken! Its a really great ride (and a reminder I need to read the sequel at some point)

Yeah, they are pretty different and definitely speaks to how changeable my reading mood has been lately 🤣 And thank you—I’m excited and a little nervous about picking up The Unbroken, but I hope that I enjoy it too!

I’m hoping to dive back into The Saints of Steel this month, but who knows if I actually will lol, and I’m looking forward to our upcoming buddy read! I hope you enjoy all your reads 🙂

Ooh, I hope you enjoy the books whenever you get around to continuing the series, Becky! They’re such a great combo of cosy + mystery + romance + fantasy! I’m excited (and a wee bit nervous) about our buddy read too. I hope we love it 😀

I’m so glad you loved the Paladin books! It’s the next series I want to start — I’m on the waitlist for the audiobook at the library, and hope it comes through when I actually have time to listen! Interesting about the short stories — I tend to count them individually, but I suppose whatever works for you makes sense!

I hope you love the Paladin series! There’s something so comforting about it, although I still have many questions and kinda need the next book asap! I don’t even have a clue if Kingfisher has talked about when she’s publishing the next one, but I’m very keen to see how the rest of the series unfolds. Also, okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one who counts short stories individually. 🤭

I thought the Paladin series was finished! That’s one of the reasons I was looking forward to starting — I love being able to read a complete series all in a row. Then again, if it’s good, there’s always room for more 🙂

Im so glad to hear you loved the Paladin series. I definitely want to check it out sometime. I had no idea there were three more to come though. Sounds like the Amazon Originals Collection was a hit overall too which is wonderful. Given the length of each I’d personally count the collection as a book rather than each individual story. But then I’m also oddly determined to have an average book length of 400 plus and those would ruin those plans if counted separately 😂 is The Reformatory on your TBR? Just curious as that authors stories was one of your favourites.
Ive heard such good things about Alexis Hall and hope you love that book. I also really hope Swordheart grabs you soon 🤞
My reading seems to have gone out of the window as I’ve gotten pulled into catch up again 🙈 I’m hoping to read a lot over the weekend and really focus on reading over the next couple of weeks too.
Can’t wait to hear what you think of The Unbroken I’ve heard such good things about that one. And although my readings been lapsed I have loved our group read so far. I cant believe we’re nearing the end of the series 🥲

Yes, it’s going to be a seven book series (one for each surviving paladin) and I’m so excited for more! I hope you enjoy the books whenever you check them out 🙂 And yes, I really enjoyed this collection. Ever since reading Bennett’s books, I’ve realised how much I love fantasy/magic & mystery, so this collection was perfect in that sense. Also, The Reformatory is on my TBR. It honestly sounds a teeny tiny bit outside of my comfort zone in the paranormal sense, but I’m looking forward to giving it a try. Have you read it or is it on your TBR too?
I’ve also heard positive things about Alexis Hall’s books and I can see why because her writing is very good! This one is very angsty and emotional, but I’m enjoying my time with it.
I’m excited but also nervous about The Unbroken. I’m glad that it’ll be a buddy read though because I think that it would’ve kept on the TBR otherwise (and who knows for how many years, lol). 🤣 I’m also sad that we’re nearing the end of the Lady Trent series—it has been so great, and also an awesome one to read with friends. 💜

Oh wow I had no idea. I’ll have to make sure I start catching up on everything in that particular world. Thank you. Yes it made me realise the very same thing. The problem is its tricky finding other fantasy mysteries that are just as good 😅 oh thats true, I forgot that paranormal horror tends to creep you out the most. Its on my TBR too. Ive seen so many rave reviews for it that I really must get to it soon.
