Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I managed to finish 3 books. All of them were no lower than 4 stars so I’d say it’s been a really great reading week!

Nine Goblins by T. Kingfisher ★★★★½
This was absolutely the best palate cleanser after Fury. 😂 I wanted something light (and happy!) but still fantasy and of course, this fit the bill perfectly. In classic Kingfisher fashion, the writing was cosy, so very humorous, and full of heart. Who knew that a troop of nine goblins and one kind-hearted elf solving the mystery of the dead quiet woods and an abandoned town would make for such entertaining reading? I loved it!

The Fury of the Gods (The Bloodsworn Saga #3) by John Gwynne ★★★★¾
Becky and I wound up reading the final chapters of the book pretty much in tandem and it was so much fun to read this chaotic, consuming, and absolutely MAD conclusion to such an epic fantasy together. We’ve got a chat full of all caps screaming through the shock and horror and satisfaction. 🤪 This was such wild journey but I now fully understand why this series is so hyped. If you love Norse inspired settings, intense journeys, brutal battles, ruthless gods, and fantastic found families, then I would recommend checking this out. Fair warning though, be ready to handle a lot of blood, gore, and gruesome deaths. I promise it’s all worth it though! 😂

A Fire Endless (Elements of Cadence #2) by Rebecca Ross ★★★★¼
I’m honestly still unsure what to rate these books but I’ll go with this for now. This was a great conclusion to the duology. The prose continued to lend itself so well to the vibe of the island and really heightened the mysterious, slightly sinister, yet magical atmosphere of Cadence. I thought the characters, especially Torin, experienced some great growth in the book, and the resolution of the chaos was well done. I only wish that we got a bit more at the end about how the island transformed after everything. Still, I found this conclusion very satisfying and I’m so happy I finally read this duology!

I’m currently focusing on one read at the moment and it’s a buddy read with Leslie! 💜

Paladin’s Hope (The Saint of Steel #3) by T. Kingfisher

We’re continuing with the third book in this Kingfisher series and at about 28% in, I already love it. Galen and Piper have been introduced in the previous books, but I’m really enjoying their perspectives and getting to know them better as individuals. I’m also loving that we get to see more of the gnoles because they’re comments (especially about humans) are always so entertaining. Curious to see where this mystery and the romance develops! 😍

Some buddy reads are coming up that I’m really excited about but let’s see where my mood takes me!

Of Pixies and Pekoe by Shari L. Tapscott, Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb, Malice by John Gwynne, When The Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Vida Kelley, Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield

  2. I really should read more Kingfisher because her writing is gorgeous. All of her books you mentioned above look so interesting 😍 She comes up with such unique ways to tell familiar stories. I only read Thornhedge so far and it was by far one of the best novellas I’ve ever read. 😀

    I’ve heard great things about Malice so I hope you enjoy it as well! 😊

    • Her writing is gorgeous and there’s just something about her books that’s so comforting? Cosy? Wonderful? Idk. It just always leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy, even if there are darker elements in there too. Thornhedge is great and it was also my first Kingfisher 🙂 I hope you love her other books when you get around to trying them 🙂

      Malice will be a re-read for me but all I remember is that I loved it the first time around. Let’s hope that I love it more on re-read before (hopefully) finishing the series! 😂

  3. So many amazing ratings this week!! I’m very excited about Nine Goblins now! I am trying to acquire all the Kingfisher now that I’m reading her work and loving it. I am so glad you loved the Gwynne series. I can’t wait to start Malice again. haha.

    • I hope you love Nine Goblins! It’s such a fun and cosy novella. 🥹 I’m so glad that you’re loving Kingfisher’s books! They’re such a great mix of things that somehow make for cosy reads, lol. I can’t wait to re-read Malice too and hopefully, we do better with continuing the series this time 😂

    • I LOVE THE GNOLES! Oh my gosh, they must be protected at all costs 🥹 Earstripe really made the book even better for me, and I’m so sad that this one was the shortest of the series cos it’s probably my favourite? Idk. It’s hard to choose because I’ve loved all three books, but like you said, Piper is incredible (loved him so much too) and THE GNOLES. I loved Galen as well, but I just wish that we got a bit more depth from his character and the trauma of his experience. Still, it was excellent and I can’t wait to read the fourth book asap.

  5. I still need to read Nine Goblins and the last three of Kingfisher’s Paladin books. I’m glad to see you’re enjoying them. The Fury of the Gods is still on my TBR, too, which is crazy considering how much I enjoyed the first two books. Your description of the finale is really making me want to pick it up now. I hope you have a great week!

    • You need to pick up Fury of the Gods! Lol Becky and I were shook by the end of the second book and we decided that it was impossible to wait longer than a few days to start the third because it was madness. The third book goes so quickly too cos it’s all kickin’ off and shit’s hitting the fan! I hope you love it whenever you get to it and Kingfisher’s books too 😊

  6. Three reads all above 4 stars! What a week. So glad our buddy read ending on a high, even if it was an emotional one. Excited to see what you think of Paladin’s Hope, I still need to read that and book 4. I hope you enjoy all your reads 🙂

    • It’s been a grand reading week, Becky! ✨ I love when books leave me an emotional wreck! I’m still really glad we experienced that one together though, lol. I just finished Paladin’s Hope today and I loved it although I’m quite sad that it was so short compared to the others! I hope you enjoy them too whenever you get around to them 🙂

  11. Gwynn really knows how to go big. I loved the thought he put towards characters’ gear, which isn’t something I’d seen before. Our Wives Under the Sea is on my tbr, so I’m excited to see your thoughts on it!
