TL;DR: This was really cute and cosy — perfect for those who want a funny, low-angst, charming, and whimsical fantasy read with a touch of romance! I can’t say that I was a big fan of the main love interest, but it’s clear that we’re veering into some kind of love-triangle territory here and to be honest, I’m not totally here for it because I know who I want the FMC to choose. 🤣 This has great small-town vibes, even though I wished that we got to explore the history a bit more. Hopefully, we’ll get that as the series continues and Kit settles in. Overall though, this was a quick and easy read, plus I really enjoyed the audiobook!

I loved this cosy, idyllic and charming small town full of high fae, pixies, and other magical beings such as shifters, elves, goblins, brownies, mages and so much more. It’s a real magical in the mundane situation, and I found it weird (positive) and quirky that this town doesn’t have anything electronic or modern, including cars, in public facing businesses and the central town area due to the tourists, but magical beings use tech in their personal spaces. It was quaint-like. I would’ve loved to learn more about how this town came to be and how it’s run, but hopefully we get more of that in coming books. The magic world that Tapscott brings to life was also great. There’s not a lot to the magic system, each magical being has their own powers and abilities, some that work well together, others that clash. I loved learning about the pixie magic and honestly, loved the sound of Kit’s summer pixie magic, even if she didn’t have great control over it. 😂 It was entertaining!

Kit was a fun main character who comes across as a bit naive and sheltered at times, but she’s not a difficult character to empathise with. I think the one thing that kind of made my eyes roll a bit was her insta-lust magical spark connection with a certain high fae because of course she would fall for the extremely good looking high fae councilman. I do like the stoic and grumpy MMCs, but not this brand in particular. History shows that we can’t trust the overly charming, slightly cold, stunningly handsome, “perfect” MMCs and there’s just something about the man that doesn’t feel genuine, but I won’t get to naming names because you’ll find out soon enough if you read the book and I don’t want to give spoilers! 🤭

Even knowing it’s fantasy and magic, you do have to suspend your disbelief that there would be this many good looking men and women in one village. They’re “high fae” but the fact that practically everyone was good-looking was a lot. It thankfully doesn’t play a big role in the story per se, it’s just that it came up every time Kit met someone new—which was often, as she was being introduced to all the shopkeepers and other magical residents. That said, I enjoyed getting to meet everyone and found some of the side characters very entertaining. I especially liked an overly flirtatious baker elf, and his cheekiness had me laughing out loud a few times. I look forward to seeing how Kit’s relationships with the townsfolk evolve as the story continues. The relationship I enjoyed most, however, was between Kit and Rowan. There were so many moments that I highlighted in their conversations — their back and forth was really fun and exactly what I love in relationships, whether platonic or romantic.

I’ve already downloaded the second book I’m looking forward to continuing the series and seeing where it goes. I hope the love triangle situation doesn’t annoy me too much, but I’m also curious how long it will last (how long this series is) as there are three books out now — will we have to wait for much more?
