Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last week I finished two books! While both were adult fantasies, one was epically brutal and set in a Norse-inspired world, and the other was a much slower-burn featuring the fae world, magic, and mystery. Both were fantastic though!

The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne, A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross
The Hunger of the Gods (The Bloodsworn Saga #2) by John Gwynne ★★★★½
Becky and I continued our buddy read of this series and I’m so glad that I’m reading this with her. There’s so much to talk about! 😂 I’m in so deep with these characters and I fear that it’s to the detriment of my well-being because whatever comes next is going to be even more brutal and gut-wrenching. This book didn’t pull any punches either and even though there was a lot of travel involved, the plot was well-paced and the character arcs were so well done. I cannot get over that ending either because WHAT THE FORKIN’ FORK?! Illegal! Straight to jail!! How dare Gwynne play my feelings so hard like that?!!! 😭 Becky and I are starting the final book on Friday and I’m scared… Daddy Snaka, is that you? 👀
A River Enchanted (Elements of Cadence #1) by Rebecca Ross ★★★★½
I’m so glad to finally be reading this series and that it’s a buddy read with Chris! Ross’ writing is so beautiful and has a haunting and whimsical element to it that suits the vibes of Cadence perfectly. This place is eerie and magical and I loved seeing how people live so closely alongside the fae world and spirits. The characters were awesome—I loved Jack and Adaira, and the many other characters we meet. The ending was so angsty, and I’m excited to be reading the final book already. Also very glad this is a duology! 😂

I do still have some of the other books that I was reading on-going since last week, but if I’m being honest, I’m mainly focusing on one:

A Fire Endless (Elements of Cadence #2) by Rebecca Ross
Even though I still consider this a pretty slow burn, it’s not as slow as the first book. There are some new characters that I really LOATHE and they make me want to throw my book across the room, lol (I won’t, of course). 💀 The stakes are much higher in this and I’m curious to see the turns coming up—it’s gonna be an intense ride!

Some buddy reads are coming up that I’m really excited about but let’s see where my mood takes me!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

I’m currently reading Whisper Creek by Allison Brennan
In the last week I finished 🥁
1 Through Uncharted Space by Anna Hackett
2 Crashed on an Ice World by Anna Hackett
3 Enter the Nightmare by Jayne Castle
4 Twisted Road by Christine Feehan
Not sure what next

Ohhh, that cover of A River Enchanted is lovely. I started that one a while ago and derailed (…perils of being a mood reader), but I really want to get back to it.

These are the new Illumicrate editions and they are stunning. So glad I splurged for them 🥹 As a fellow mood reader, I commiserate and I totally get it with these books. I think because they’re a pretty slow burn, especially book one, if I wasn’t in the right mood, I would definitely put it on pause. I hope that you enjoy it more if you give it another shot in the future cos they’re worth it! 😊

I think terrified is more how I feel to start the final book in Gwynne’s trilogy… if that’s how he ends the second book, god help us when it comes to the last lol! I’m glad you’re enjoying Ross’ series, it’s probably my favourite of her’s so far. I hope you enjoy all your reads 🙂

Scared is definitely an understatement 🤣 I’m just trying to let go of all my feelings for everyone I like in this series, LOL. I think it might be the smartest thing to do, Becky. 🤭 I did wind up really enjoying Ross’ duology. I sped through it and finished it yesterday.

Yeah, so these covers were from the recently released set by Illumicrate! I never wound up getting the second book when IC released the original versions they did, so when I saw they were re-releasing new editions I immediately scooped them up 😍 They’re stunning—I have no regrets, haha

I’m so glad you are enjoying the Gwynne series!! We really need to re-start Malice here soon! I have been wanting to get to that duology (I think?) by Ross! I’m so glad you enjoyed the first one!!

The Gwynne series is so good—I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to get to it, but I’m so glad that it’s finally happened. 😂 We doo need to re-start Malice and I think I’m more confident in re-starting the series now!
Also, yes, this is a duology and it’s really good! It’s quite a slow-burn but it’s so beautifully written, and I love the setting and concept. I hope you enjoy it if/when you get to it 😍
