#TopTenTuesday: Books ft. Ordinal Numbers

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is a: Book Titles Featuring Ordinal Numbers (Ordinal numbers are numbers that define an item’s place in a series. For example: first, second, third, fourth, tenth, fourteenth, thirty-third, one hundredth, etc.) (submitted by Joanne @ Portobello Book Blog)

I liked today’s topic—it was fun without being too difficult and I don’t recall having done this topic before. I think one of my reading challenges last year (or the year before) did have this as a prompt but I can’t remember which or what I read for it! 🤭 I wanted to see if I could find books that hit all numbers from 1-10 but I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that. If not, I’ll continue going up the scale until I get ten titles. All but three are from my TBR (the ones I’ve read are marked with the ♡). Let’s see how it goes!

At First Spite by Olivia Dade
That Second Chance by Meghan Quinn ♡
The Third Daughter by Adrienne Tooley ♡
Grief in the Fourth Dimension by Jennifer Yu
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

The Seventh Veil of Salome by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult ♡
Twelfth Knight by Alexene Farol Follmuth
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

I clearly ran into trouble with sixth, eighth and eleventh but I’m kind of surprised that I managed to find so many options from my shelves for books featuring ordinal numbers! Have you read any of these or are they on your TBR?

  1. Oh, I like how you did this Dini organized by ascending numbers is very satisfying! 🙂 I want to read The Fifth Season, The Thirteenth Tale , and Gideon The Ninth. Twelfth Knight sounds fun too, reminds me of that Disney Channel movie, Avalon High. lol. Here’s my TTT.

  2. GREAT JOB!! You even did it in order. This reminds me that I need to continue Fifth Season! Every year, I tell myself that I’ll read, Gideon the Ninth. I never do and I MUST this year!! haha.

  3. Ive read none but three of these (Fifth, Seventh & Thirteenth) I’m majorly hoping to pick up this year. What did you think of The Third Daughter? For a moment I thought I could remember you disliking it, then I realised that was Sweet & Bitter Magic by the author. Gideon The Ninth is also on my priority list and technically I’m meant to catch up before the next ones out…I’m kind of doubting it’ll happen given my crazy TBR though. Well done on getting to so many of the numbers 🥰

    • Ngl, I can’t remember all too well, but I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as the first in the duology. I think it was a satisfying ending though? Sorry! Haha, my memory is so bad. I have read other books by this author before and Sweet & Bitter Magic was one of them, but you’re right, I didn’t enjoy that one at all! 🫣 I think my favourite of hers is Sofi and the Bone Song!

Gideon the Ninth has been on my TBR for what feels like ages now. I mean, it has been ages, but I keep saying I’ll read it and just never get around to it. If you wanna do a buddy read lmk, I’d be happy to get it ticked off my TBR too, but no pressure if not! 😂

      • Ah its always a shame when the second book in a duology isn’t as strong as the first. Ooh I remember being intrigued by Sofi & The Bone Song. Although the one on my physical TBR is the one you disliked 😬

Sure we can do one sometime if you want. Although I think I’d like to get to Drop Of Corruption and Blood Over Bright Haven first if possible. It would be great to catch up on this series too before the next one releases though 😅

  4. I loved the Thirteenth Tale back when I read it. You did very well. I was going to go this route, but wanted to use books I’d already read, and there were lots I hadn’t yet, so I went with all books that have “First” in the title.
