2025 Spotify Wrapped Book Tag

It’s that time of the year where we’re wrapping things up and that means, of course, it’s time for the Spotify Wrapped posts to take over our feeds, lol. 😂 So why not add the Spotify Wrapped Book Tag to the mix? I had lots of fun doing it this tag for the last three years so it’s time to do it again now! I wonder if it’ll be easy to find good book matches for some of my favourite tunes this past year? Let’s find out! 🎶

Check out my previous posts: 2024 | 2023 | 2022

This tag was originally created by Rosina @Lace and Dagger Books!

How does it work?

The idea of this challenge is to put your Spotify Wrapped playlist on shuffle, and for the first five songs, you need to pick a book you read in 2025 that fits that song. It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit. You just have to explain why you chose that book for that song!

Before we kick things off, here’s my top songs of 2025 playlist. Apparently my listening age is 20 with how many top 40 pop bops I listen to and y’know, I can’t even deny it! 😂 Do we have similar listening tastes? 👀

stranger – olivia rodrigo

paired with…

Dinner for Vampires: Life On A Cult TV Show by Bethany Joy Lenz

This book is about Lenz’s experience being part of a cult and her leaving that cult behind. I think it fits this song particularly because it’s also about personal growth, about moving forward and doing better after leaving behind a toxic relationship, which is what Lenz had with this cult. There’s a bittersweetness to the song that I think matches the book as well because you go through literal hell with someone and it takes a lot to leave that behind.

“There’s nothin’ left for me to sing / I screamed, I cried, I did the whole thing / And I loved you mad, but it doesn’t matter anymore, no…”

“And God knows that I am the girl I am because of you / You know I’ll always think of you, I’ll love ya ’til the end of time / You are the best thing that I’ll ever keep so far out of my life”

opalite – taylor swift

paired with…

In A Rush by Kate Canterbary

Okay, this was actually so much harder than I imagined it would be. To me, this song is just the most happy loved-up love song. It’s cheesy and it’s goofy and I love it. It’s about living through the bad things (“dancing through the lightning strikes”) which makes finding your thing/person all the more joyful and incredible (“now the sky is opalite”). Ultimately, I think the goofiness and the loved-up-ness of this song is what makes me pick this song for Ryan & Emme.

“I had a bad habit / Of missing lovers past / My brother used to call it / “Eating out of the trash” / It’s never gonna last”

“But my mama told me, “It’s alright / You were dancing through the lightning strikes / Sleepless in the onyx night / But now, the sky is opalite, oh-oh, oh, oh, oh / Oh, my Lord / Never met no one like you bеfore / You had to make your own sunshine / But now, thе sky is opalite, oh-oh, oh, oh, oh, oh”

Oh, my Lord / Never made no one like you before (No) / You had to make your own sunshine / But now, the sky is opalite, oh-oh, oh, oh, oh, oh”

i wish i hated you – ariana grande

paired with…

The Earl That Got Away by Diana Quincy

So I’m kind of interpreting this song in a different way than Ari intended for this book. While she sings about wishing she could hate an ex that she will never welcome back into her life, I’m taking this from a “we broke up but I wish we were still together pov” from both character’s perspectives in different times. No spoilers, but iykyk Persuasion!

“Our shadows dance in a parallel plane / Just two different endings, you learn to repair / And I learn to keep me in one place”

“I rearrange my memories / I try to rewrite our life / But no matter how I try to (Mm) / And no matter how I want to (Mm) / And no matter how easy things could be if I did / And no matter how guilty I still feel saying it / I wish I hated you”

“Our shadows dance in a parallel plane / Just two different endings, you learn to repair / And I learn to keep me in one place / So close (So close) and yet so far (So far) / If only we had known from the start”

the subway – chappell roan

paired with…

To Be Your Last by Rae Kennedy

Oof, this was really tough as well! I think this book fits this song but only particular parts of the lyrics… 🫣 I won’t dive deeper into it because spoilers but you might get the gist from the lyrics!

“A few weeks later, somebody wore your perfume / It almost killed me, I had to leave the room”

“It’s just another day and it’s not over (Ah) / ‘Til it’s over, it’s never over / ‘Til I don’t look for you on the staircase / Or wish you thought that we were still soulmates / But I’m still counting down all of the days / ‘Til you’re just another girl on the subway”

“Made you the villain, evil for just moving on / I see your shadow, I see it even with the lights off / I made a promise if in four months, this feeling ain’t gone / Well, fuck this city, I’m moving to Saskatchewan”

how bad do u want me – lady gaga

paired with…

Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli

This is another pairing where I feel like you might have to read a bit into the lyrics and events of the book and twist them to fit. I feel like some of the lyrics and meaning of this song fit the enemies-to-lovers dynamic of this romantasy! Again, no spoilers, but it just fit the whole idea of “having a specific image of someone in your head but it’s different to what the reality is.”

“You like the bad girl I got in me / She’s on your mind, like, all the time / But I got a tattoo for us last week / Even good boys bleed”

“‘Cause you hate thе crash, but you love the rush / And I’ll make your hеart weak every time / You hear my name, ’cause she’s in your brain / And I’m here to kiss you in real life / ‘Bout to cause a scene / How bad, bad do you want me?”

Well, I feel like that was much harder than previous years, but I’m glad I managed to find something for every song—even if I had to twist interpretations a little bit! 😂 That’s it for my 2025 Spotify Wrapped book tag! Did you read a book that you think pairs well with any of these songs?

  1. Oh, I love this concept! While I haven’t come across any of the books you mentioned, I absolutely love some of the songs on your playlist- Opalite and Good Luck, Babe to name a couple. Also, you should listen to Gabriela by Katseye, I think you’d like that song!

    • Oh, I do know that song and I do quite enjoy it. It has a very hypnotizing quality to it and it’s so easy to kind of sink into the tune! Opalite gets so much flack but that’s one of my favourites from the album. It’s just SO RELENTLESSLY HAPPY. Is it corny/cheesy/ott? Yeah! But that’s why I love it 🤣
