Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp [300]

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent your time reading in bed or wish you had time to read today.

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday night (possibly) reading Strange Pictures by Uketsu. I’m buddy reading this with Charlotte and it’s a pretty quick read with only four chapters. It’s a little bit eerie but not as unsettling as I thought it would be originally. I do have 1.5 chapters to go though so I could just be jinxing myself right now. 🤣 Either way, I’m keen to keep reading!

What book are you spending your Sunday in bed with?

The mood this week was a bit sombre as I continued to help my parents process what happened to them last Sunday. They feel a lot of guilt and are understandably super upset about it. We’re all trying to move forward but I know they’re still thinking about it a lot. That’s why I baked a pie today because, why not try to cheer them up with a baked good? I had some leftover dough that I made into a hand-pie that mum and I devoured and it was delicious! I’m glad I tried this new recipe that I found. 😊 I didn’t take a very aesthetic picture of the pie (and didn’t even think to take one of the hand-pie before eating it!) but I’ve shared the one I took anyway. Let me just say it tastes better than it looks! 🤣

It’s been a slow-ish week of reading and blogging. I’ve not been doing a great job of blog hopping and engaging with comments this past week because I’ve been exhausted from work madness and of course, everything going on at home. I’m gonna try to catch up asap!

ICYMI here’s what I posted this week:

Of course, a big highlight to end the weekday was the release of Taylor Swift’s newest album: The Life of a Showgirl. Apparently there’s a lot of hate around it with people complaining that the lyrics are weak/dumb/unserious and that this is the worst thing she has ever put out. If you’re comparing it to her most recent albums, then sure, lyrically it’s not nearly her strongest work (really didn’t have Taylor singing about “d***matized” in my 2025 bingo, lol) and yes, it can get pretty cheesy, but I love how happy she sounds in the album! 🌈 It’s clear she’s having so much fun and she’s overjoyed at where she is in life, and after TTPD being so melancholy and depressing, it’s wonderful to see how she’s pulled herself out of that darkness. I’d even go so far as to say she’s channeling a little bit of her inner Sabrina Carpenter (more obvious in certain tracks, iykyk). Yeah, this probably isn’t going to win her any awards, but her joy is infectious and makes this album an absolute joy to listen to! My favourite tracks so far are: The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, Father Figure, Wi$h Li$t, Honey, and The Life of a Showgirl!

I hope everyone’s doing well and treating themselves with care. Have a great week ahead, friends! 💜

  1. I always love reading your Sunday post, that pie looks good and definitely didn’t need pictures, it needed to be eaten asap. You’re one of the few people I’ve read who’s not tearing Taylor’s album to shreds with negativity and I’m wondering why people don’t like when others are happy or trying something new for a change.

    • Thanks, Dee! 💜 I don’t get why people have to constantly hate on her and yet, keep listening to her all the same? 😅 People just can’t be happy and they also can’t let others be happy. I love the joy in this album so much and I’m happy for her. There are some great bops here!

  2. I work at a financial institution and I see a lot of people right after they have been scammed and no matter how the conversation goes, I always make sure to say one thing to them – “This happens to all kinds of people, young and old and you are not alone. Hackers & Scammers have gotten quite good at what they do and all kinds of people are falling victim to them”

    • Yes, I’ve told my parents the same thing too. I think I just feel helpless because they feel really violated and it happened so quickly that it took a while for them to process it. Hackers & scammers really are getting next level at the tricks they will play and it’s so heartless!

  3. I missed your Sunday post last week, so I had to go back to find out what had happened. How heartbreaking for your parents! I’m so sorry. It’s devastating when that happens. I hope they will be alright. It’s sobering to realize how easily scammers can take your hard-earned money. I hope your parents and your family can get some help in dealing with the aftermath.

The pie looks delicious, and what a kind thing to do! The term “comfort food” is right on the nose; food is comfort in stressful times, especially something made with love.

  4. Sorry to hear about your parents situation – I hope they enjoyed the pie, it looks yummy! I only liked 3 songs from the album, which is fine, not even her album can take this worry from me with what’s happening in our country. 😒 I hope you have a good week!

    • Fair enough! This album has steadily grown on me the more I listen to the songs on repeat. Which is your favourite track? 🙂 Or, well, which ones are your Top (only) 3? Haha Sending hugs your way and hope you have a great week ahead, Yolanda!

      • The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite and Ruin the Friendship! Sigh we shall see – my hubby is furloughed since the government is shutdown so I guess we have to dip into the savings until they open up the government again!!! 😔 I hope you have a good week!

        • Ruin the Friendship has grown on me immensely! I’ve started getting emotional when we get to that last part because Forever Winter is one my favourite songs 🥺 Ugh, the feels still hit hard!
Also, I’m sorry to hear about your husband and his job, Yolanda! I hope that he finds something new soon and that things don’t get even more difficult! Sending that good positive energy your way 🫂 (even if my response to this is more than a little late!)

          • Well he still has his job and goes to work – he just won’t be getting paid until after the government opens up – which SUCKS. His job isn’t on the chopping block yet….😒 but it’s bad for morale when you are going to work and not knowing when you will get paid. He actually did get a new job in a different division but that’s in limbo also because of the shutdown too! 🫠

  5. I’m sure they enjoyed it, so nice of you! YES to all the Swift thoughts. It sounds so happy and joyful. She is in love and it shows. She has wanted this all her life and duh- all her albums show that! I have been playing it on repeat and I love it! I feel so bad for her and I hope she’s not seeing all the trash people are saying online. They sure do love to hate her. Don’t like it? Then MOVE ON. She’s 35 and not 16! She can sing about d*ck if she wants. LOL

    • I know we’ve been talking about the new album on IG but I’ve also been watching some reaction videos on YouTube from my favourite reactors and they’ve convinced me that yes, we’re right that this album is good! 😌 Haha, I just love her joy so much! I’ve also been playing it on repeat and omg, the way I can’t stop dancing when it comes to so many of the upbeat pop beats. Pure pop perfection! ✨ And LMAO, yeah, she’s clearly getting it good. LET HER BE HAPPY WITH THE D! 🤣

      • Of course, we are!! hahaha! We don’t hate her and get our kicks from tearing her down. Girl, the way the people are doing gymnastics to get to their points is crazy. I’m just blown away by it. I’m glad we are loving it and enjoying it! I have had it on repeat all weekend!! It’s a pop album and she’s so happy. It’s what everyone wanted after TTPD. Everyone hated that album when it came out too. I think this is what they all do with ever album. It’s so unserious!

    • Aw, thanks Julie! I hate feeling helpless when it comes to this and so I do what I can, even if it may be ‘superficial’, haha. At least we get to enjoy some good food to distract us (even if temporarily)! 🤭

  6. Oh my goodness, Dini. I had to go back to read last weeks post to see what had happened. I am so sorry for your parents and that loss of trust they must feel now. I am also very sorry about the loss of your friend. Long distance hugs being sent your way. I often find that things that might not look the best always taste wonderful. Good for you to bake a pie for your parents. I just got back on Sunday from my month long vacation, so know what it’s like when you don’t get a chance to blog hop, but I can see you were a bit preoccupied. I hope things settle down for you.

  7. I love the new TS album and idk why people just keep criticizing it 😭 Like you said, it’s a fun album and I’m happy with how happy she sounds compared to Midnights or TTPD ❤ I have to admit, the middle part was a bit slumpy (Father Figure and Eldest Daughter) but I love the rest of the tracks!

    • Omg, tell me about it. People will just never be happy no matter what she does so idec anymore 🤣 Let them talk shit—they’re still giving her the air time at the end of the day, haha. Father Figure has continued to grow on me but Eldest Daughter is still (probably) my least favourite. Ironically so, because I thought (being an eldest daughter) I’d connect with it the most but sadly, it’s not a banger for me, lol. Glad to hear you’ve loved the album too though—your taste is clearly superior! 😉
