Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp [299]

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent your time reading in bed or wish you had time to read today.

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday night reading To Be Taught If Fortunate by Becky Chambers. This is the last book I need to complete my Orilium semester this month! I’m definitely cutting it close but I have a feeling I’ll be able to finish this novella quickly enough. 🥰

What book are you spending your Sunday in bed with?

This week was pretty low-key and uneventful, even with mum’s birthday on Thursday, until we received some tragic news on Friday that a former colleague (someone who was on my team) had passed away that morning. He kept things quite close to the chest most of the time, so I guess it’s no surprise that he didn’t tell anyone about how sick he really was. It was shocking to say the least, especially since he just turned 30 the previous week, and put everyone in a very sombre mood. Then today rolled around and it has been an outright mess due to a scammer getting their grubby hands on my overly trusting parents and they lost a lot of money. It’s been a really long day and any plans I had to relax and read flew completely out the window. 😮‍💨 I’m very sad it’s Sunday cos I could definitely do with another day to decompress, lol.

ICYMI here’s what I posted this week:

i, carrion (icarian) – hozier

I hope everyone’s doing well and treating themselves with care. Have a great week ahead, friends! 💜

  1. Sorry to hear about your parents being scammed – I work at a financial institution and it always breaks my heart when members come in and share that they have been scammed. I am working on reading The Heartbreak Hotel by Ellen o’Clover today.

  2. Your co-worker was so young. So sad. I am so sorry your parents have been victims to a scammer. It’s so wrong. THIS is why I am so paranoid. My grandmother had fallen prey to someone who bilked her out of thousands. My parents moved her in with us after that. It’s so wrong.

  3. Oh, I am very sorry that this happened to your parents and to your colleague; may he rest in peace. I hope that your parents can recover at least some of the money lost.. Scammers are getting more and more bold and creative, and it is scary indeed.. Take care and don’t despair for God is good and he will bless you and your family in other ways. Happy reading, Dini!

  4. So sorry to hear about your colleague Dini especially as it was such a shock. It’s always so sad to hear of people dying so young. That’s awful about your parents too. There are so many scams nowadays and they get cleverer every time. I hope that your parents manage to get their money back.
Enjoy the Becky Chambers. I loved it.

    • Thank you, Janette. It was a shock because he was so young! It was definitely not a great start to the weekend, nor end to the weekend but now it’s just a matter of moving forward, I guess. 😮‍💨 These scammers are so insidious, like, they will really go to all the lengths to get their money. It’s so awful! Unfortunately, the system in Indonesia doesn’t support the victims of these scams and 0% of cases filed to get their money back ever succeeds. It’s truly a shame (and infuriating). 😣

        • It’s awful. You’d think with everything being digital, Indonesia would have better protection mechanisms and policies in place, but alas, that’s not the case. Thankfully, my parents and I will be fine, even if it’s a blow. But I can’t imagine what it’s even like for people who get scammed and really don’t have enough to survive following the incident. And yet, law enforcement can’t (or won’t) do anything about it.

  5. I’m sorry to hear about your colleague and your parents – it sounds like it’s been a hard week. Hopefully, reading To Be Taught If Fortunate will be able to take your mind off it for a bit. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it when you’re done – I recently read and reviewed it and absolutely loved it.

  6. I’m so sorry about your colleague, Dini! And also about the scammer and your parents. I swear the current scams situation in Indonesia is out of control, especially with how weak data protection and law enforcement is, and yet everything is digital now. It is certainly very concerning and I hope your family could recover soon 🫂
