Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp [295]

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent your time reading in bed or wish you had time to read today.

I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday night in bed reading The Eye of the Bedlam Bride by Matt Dinniman. This is book 6 in the DCC series that I’ve been lowkey obsessed with! Leslie and I are continuing with our buddy read and we’re really gearing ourselves up for a world of heartache, lol. Help 🥲

What book are you spending your Sunday in bed with?

I think the drama and adrenaline from the previous week has left everyone in the office feeling drained and exhausted so it was, thankfully, a much quieter week and not a lot happened. I started swimming with a colleague every other week, including last Wednesday, and I love that I can actually feel how my stamina has improved from going to the gym because I don’t run out of breath as quickly when swimming! That said, I wish that I didn’t have this stupidly irrational and ridiculous fear of being in a pool on my own. Considering I used to be on the swim team in all the schools I went to from the time I was eight until I graduated, I don’t know how this fear developed, and I can hardly recall when. I wish it was easier to tell my brain that the fear is stupid cos I really would love to swim more often even without my colleague to join me! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I got some exciting book mail from Illumicrate and I found someone selling new copies of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. Was it a bit of a spontaneous (and incredibly pricey) purchase? Yes, but my plan was to always own the DCC series physically so I’m glad that I finally have them. Despite not being special editions, these six books might be the priciest bookish spend I’ve made this year! 🤭 The books from Illumicrate include the month’s book: The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley, and a special edition of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab.

ICYMI here’s what I posted this week:

I hope everyone’s doing well and treating themselves with care. Have a great week ahead, friends! 💜

  1. I’m glad that out had a better week in the office and hope that it continues. Well done for starting swimming again and I hope that the fear of being there alone fades in time.
Those Illumicrate editions are both gorgeous. Hope you enjoy them

  2. I don’t think it’s stupid to want to have someone in the pool with you. If it makes you more comfortable, that’s what you should do. There’s an accountability aspect when you have a training partner as well, and YEAH for seeing some results. That’s what keeps us going.

  3. What a book haul Dini!, makes me want to buy more pretty books! I’m glad work is better and that is not so crazy about your pool anxiety, I relate! I live in Hawaii, I grew up at the beach but never swam in the deep (maybe because I had male cousins always threatening us to leave me and my girl cousins out there 😂). I remember being in the advanced group in swim classes in the 4th grade, I loved it, was swimming the length of the pool. And yet now as an adult, I cannot swim!! Oh I can float on my back and swim that way if I need to, but freestyle and treading water? I can’t do it and my daughter is taking swim classes now and I watch her and think…how did I develop such anxiety in the pool?! Isn’t it wild how our brain works when it comes to anxiety?

    • I’ve stopped my Illumicrate sub for a while but I started feeling FOMO with all the gorgeous editions of books I really want to read this year, so I was like, “eh, treat yourself!” … SO I DID! 🤣 Omg, my aversion to being in large bodies of water alone definitely extends to the ocean! I think in that respect, I know what it was that made me terrified. I used to go diving and at one point, I got caught in a pretty strong current under water that pushed me out into the middle of a huge drop and I looked down and it was SO DARK. It was terrifying!!! 🥲 It’s funny how certain things change with us as we get older, haha. It’s so weird how our anxieties and fears develop!

      • That is scary Dini, especially getting caught in a current! I never went diving into the ocean, my dad did a lot of diving/fishing when I was younger, he had a boat. And so he used to tell me he’d teach me how to swim by throwing me off the boat (when I would go out with him some days) 😩. Thanks for the trauma dad! lol

  4. See, I grew up with a pool in the backyard, and it was a family rule that no one was in the pool all alone. Even if the other person was on the back patio instead of in the pool, another person needed to be present just in case of emergency. It’s a whole lot safer that way, and I don’t think you’re silly for that anxiety at all.

  5. Okay, now that my kiddo is in school I’m going to start really blogging again! I have missed it because this is where I get all the life updates of my friendly bloggers. ❤ I am so excited and nervous to finish up book 6!! Also, I’m glad it was a calmer week at work. Swimming is great exercise!! I wish I could do that! I don’t blame you- I would be terrified of swimming in a pool alone. I’m not sure where that fear comes from either. Maybe because I low key still think there’s sharks and stuff in there. LOL I just feel like it’s so unsafe! What if I got a leg cramp and started drowning? Idk.. I think it’s better to never be alone! ❤

    • I’ve missed seeing you around the blogosphere even though I know we still keep in touch almost daily on IG 😂 Swimming really is a great full body workout. I still haven’t gone back to swim again this week because of the migraine earlier in the week and now lingering mini headaches and nausea, but I’m hoping to get back to it next week! I’m glad that I’m not the only one who doesn’t feel like getting into a pool alone. THAT IS EXACTLY THE REASON WHY! And not just sharks but other things I can’t see (I blame some old Japanese horror that burrowed deep into the backlog of my brain), haha. It’s the worst 🤣 People have been pointing out the safety reason though and I really didn’t think about that before, but it’s a very good point!

      • I know, I’ve missed being here too!! It just takes so much more effort to make a post than a photo on IG. haha. I’ve got some more time on my hands now! Yes, haha!! It’s like.. there’s nothing under the water in the pool BUT THERE COULD BE. hahaha. Yes!! It’s always the safest to have someone else with you! Good thing you mentioned it and now look how it brought something to your attention! ❤

  6. I’m so glad you’re enjoying your buddy read and that things are calmer at work. And I totally get your apprehension about swimming alone. That’s scary and can be dangerous. What if there’s an emergency? I’d be uncomfortable too. Btw, your new books are gorgeous!
